Charles Reynold Verret is a Haitian-American academic administrator who has served as the sixth (and second lay) president of Xavier University of Louisiana since 2015. [1] [2]
Verret grew up in Haiti and moved to the United States in 1963. [1] [3] He graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Columbia University and received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. [4] [5] He later served as postdoctoral fellow at the Howard Hughes Institute for Immunology at Yale University and Center for Cancer Research at MIT. [3]
He has served as provost and chief academic officer at Savannah State University from 2012 to 2015, [3] provost at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre,Pennsylvania from 2007 to 2012, [6] and as dean of the Misher College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia from 2002 to 2007. [4] [7] He also served on the faculty of Tulane University and also at Clark Atlanta University,where he was chair of the chemistry department from 1996 to 2002 and served as adjunct professor at Morehouse School of Medicine. In 2015,Verret was appointed president of Xavier University of Louisiana,the nation's only Catholic HBCU. [3]

Michael A. Marletta is an American biochemist. He was born in Rochester,New York,the son of Italian immigrants. He graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1973 with an A.B. degree in biology and chemistry,and from the University of California,San Francisco in 1978 with a Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutical chemistry,where he studied with George Kenyon. He was a postdoctoral fellow with Christopher T. Walsh at MIT from 1978-1980 and continued as a faculty member at MIT from 1980-1987 whereupon he joined the faculty of the University of Michigan,Ann Arbor. He was John G. Searle Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the college of pharmacy and professor of biological chemistry at the University of Michigan. In 2001,he moved to the University of California,Berkeley to assume roles as Aldo DeBenedictis Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and professor of biochemistry and molecular biology,and served as the chair of the department of chemistry from 2005 until 2010. He was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. From January 2012 to August 2014,Marletta was president and CEO of The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla,California,succeeding Richard Lerner.
