Early life and education

Kabul grew up living above his father's Irani café in Mumbai. He and his brothers worked there after school and even managed it when their father was away. [1] He attained his Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1985.

Career

Reza Kabul established Reza Kabul Architects Pvt. Ltd. in 1988. [2] In 2011, the studio marked its milestone of 25 years in the industry with the launch of Archlights, a The Times of India (Times Property) initiative that profiled and highlighted his contribution to architecture and real estate development. [3] [4] The four-paged edition featured Kabul's projects, alongside testimonials from the construction industry members. [2] [5] [6] [7] The firm has now grown into an international practice with offices in Mumbai, Pune and San Francisco. [8]

The Church of St John the Evangelist, better known as the Afghan Church, is a church of Anglican heritage, that belongs to the Mumbai diocese of the Church of North India. Located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, it was built by the British between 1847 and 1858 to commemorate the dead of the First Afghan War and the disastrous 1842 retreat from Kabul. Memorials at the rear of the nave also record casualties from the Second Anglo-Afghan War. The foundation stone was laid in 1847; it was consecrated in 1858, and work on the steeple finished in 1865.

Irani cafés are Iranian-style cafés in the Indian subcontinent. They were originally opened by Zoroastrian Irani immigrants to British India in the 19th century, fleeing Safavid persecution or looking for better economic prospects.
