Rhino Bucket is an American hard rock band from Van Nuys, Los Angeles, formed in 1988. The group's sound is often compared to that of AC/DC. [1]
The band was formed in February 1988 by Georg Dolivo (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Reeve Downes (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Greg Fields (lead guitar, backing vocals). [2] This lineup, along with Rick Kubach on drums, played the Los Angeles rock scene for a year with contemporaries such as Junkyard and The Four Horsemen. Warner Brothers signed the band in 1989 and they released their self-titled debut album in 1990 with Liam Jason from Warrior on drums.
Their second album, 1992's Get Used To It , was written and recorded in Memphis with producer Terry Manning. The album contained "Ride With Yourself" which was featured in the hit movie and multi platinum soundtrack Wayne's World . In 1993, drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio) joined the band and appeared on the 1994 album Pain . The band continued extensive touring, but by 1996 the band went on what turned out to be an extended hiatus.
Rhino Bucket reformed in 2001 with Brian "Damage" Forsythe from Kix joining the original lineup of Dolivo, Downes and Enx on lead guitar replacing the departing Fields (aka Fidelman) who had gone on to a successful producing and engineering career. The band worked on a few movie soundtracks including the pot cult film Rolling Kansas and the title song for the movie The Outdoorsmen – Blood, Sweat & Beers. Again the band became a fixture on a now quite different L.A. rock scene.
In April 2006 Rhino Bucket released And Then It Got Ugly and then proceeded to tour with like minded friends Broken Teeth, Supersuckers and Kix. 2007 saw the release of two new CDs Pain & Suffering and No Song Left Behind. The former is an enhanced version (5 new tracks) of their 1994 album Pain , while the latter is a compilation of unreleased songs and live performances. In July of the same year Simon Wright reunited with the band at the Rocklahoma festival. Rhino Bucket released The Hardest Town in May 2009 with Wright behind the kit. The band was also featured on The Wrestler soundtrack [3] and album during this time. In 2010 the band returned to Europe for the first time in over 15 years with a 45 date tour that traveled to 14 countries.
Rhino Bucket released their sixth studio album Who's Got Mine? in January 2011 to enthusiastic reviews by both press and fans. The band then embarked on two European tours making 83 appearances most notably at the Sweden Rock Festival where they played for over 10,000 fans. A 51 show American tour followed in the Summer and Fall.
Rhino Bucket continued touring. In 2014, they completed 200 shows in Europe and North America in support of a live album entitled "Sunrise on Sunset" (2013). Their final album, The Last Real Rock n' Roll, was released in April 2017.
In 2018, after months of rumors, Georg Dolivo announced that he was leaving the band to deal with personal problems, essentially ending the group. [4] Their final live show was on April 22, at Rainbow Anniversary "Party in the Parking Lot" . In Spring 2021 Dolivo announced that he and the band are returning for a European tour and select American appearances. [5] This was later expanded to a full reunion with a new album on the way. [6]
Johnny Crash was an American hard rock band formed in 1985. Members originally included former Tokyo Blade singer Vick Wright, former Champaign guitarists Christopher Stewart and August Worchell, bassist Andy Rogers, and former Rock City Angels drummer Stephen "Punkee" Adamo. Their sound was likened to that of AC/DC, and contemporaries Junkyard, Rhino Bucket and The Four Horsemen.
Kix was an American glam metal and hard rock band formed in 1976, that achieved popularity during the 1980s. The band's classic lineup consisted of guitarists Ronnie "10/10" Younkins and Brian "Damage" Forsythe, bassist Donnie Purnell and frontman Steve Whiteman and drummer Jimmy "Chocolate" Chalfant. Kix covered Aerosmith, April Wine, Led Zeppelin, and others before signing with Atlantic Records in 1981. After peaking in the late 1980s, band members continued to record and tour until their disbandment in 2023.
Shotgun Messiah was a Swedish glam metal band from Skövde. The band was formed in 1985 by guitarist Harry Cody and bassist Tim Sköld, with singer Zinny J. Zan and drummer Stixx Galore taking part in their most commercially successful lineup. The band released three studio albums, Shotgun Messiah, Second Coming and Violent New Breed, with Cody and Sköld being the only constant members of the band. Shotgun Messiah disbanded in 1993.
And Then It Got Ugly is the fourth studio album by American hard rock band Rhino Bucket, released in 2006. The album is their first since 1994's Pain, it features Brian Forsythe of Kix on lead guitar, taking the place of Greg Fields. The record also marks the return of Jackie Enx on drums. The album closes with an acoustic version of the song "I Was Told" from Pain.
Kick Axe is a Canadian heavy metal band from Regina, Saskatchewan. Influenced by rambunctious arena rock from the 1970s and early 1980s, the group is perhaps best known for their 1984 album Vices, praised by publications such as AllMusic for its "down-and-dirty guitar riffs" and managing to crack the American market. The band achieved moderate commercial success in the mid-1980s on the strength of the singles "Heavy Metal Shuffle", "On the Road to Rock", "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "Rock the World". Following the release of their 1986 album Rock the World, Kick Axe disbanded and remained on hiatus for many years. In 2004, they re-emerged with the album Kick Axe IV.
Can't Get There from Here is the ninth studio album by the American hard rock band Great White, released in 1999. The track "Rollin' Stoned" was released as a promo single and received airplay on mainstream rock radio.
Femme Fatale was an American hard rock band. Originally from Albuquerque, the band moved to Los Angeles and released one studio album before disbanding. Lead vocalist, Lorraine Lewis, restarted the band in 2013 with an all-female line-up.
Thank You...Goodnight! is a live album released by the American hard rock band Great White in 2002. The album has the subtitle 'The Farewell Concert', because it contains the final performance of the band before its temporary disbandment, as announced by singer Jack Russell in November 2001. The concert was held at The Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, California, on December 31, 2001. This temporary break-up was short lived, as in late 2002, Russell and Kendall began to tour as "Jack Russell's Great White", which lasted until 2005. Two new songs, "Back to the Rhythm" and "Play On", were recorded on this album for the first time and reappeared in 2007 on the album Back to the Rhythm. This is the first and only release in any capacity to feature Derrick Pontier on drums.
