Ricardo Garijo (December 1, 1953 - October 3, 2009) [1] [2] was an Argentinian author, publisher and artist, best known for his long career as a comics writer and artist.
Garijo became known outside his homeland in the early 1980s through his work at D. C. Thomson before moving to European publications in the 1990s.
Since 1981, his work has gained an international audience in the Scottish war magazine, Commando . He is also co-publisher of his own comic magazine, Gurbos, which often deals with serious social themes.
In 2004, Garijo's first novel, El Fuego (The Fire) won the Honor's Prize from the Buenos Aires Writer's Society.
A year earlier, he painted the politically aware card series, Don't Let It Happen Here for Monsterwax. The series gained notoriety for profiling little known international atrocities, many of which went on to become well known news stories (like modern day slavery in Africa and honor killings in the Middle East). He has produced other trading cards for the same company including The Art of H. G. Wells , three series adapting three of Well's books: The Time Machine , The Island of Dr Moreau and The War of the Worlds .
Garijo continued to paint and one of his last works was another novel. It is said to be about his father's experiences as a prisoner in the Nazi concentration camp of Mauthausen.
He died on October 3, 2009, and was survived by his wife Adriana and their three children (including Ricardo Garijo, Jr, and accomplished artist in his own right).

The Eternaut is a science fiction Argentine comic created by Héctor Germán Oesterheld with artwork by Francisco Solano López. It was first published in Hora Cero Semanal between 1957 and 1959. Since its original release it has been hailed as a universal masterpiece of its genre, especially in South America.

Ernie Pike is a comics series written by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and originally drawn by Hugo Pratt, starring a World War II and Korean War reporter. It was first published in the magazine "Hora Cero" in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1957. The reporter, loosely based on the real reporter Ernie Pyle, acts as a narrator of stories, without being directly involved in them. Such stories do not narrate real battles or exploits of noteworthy military people, being instead tragic stories of unknown soldiers, made up by the author. Oesterheld worked again with the character during the time of the Vietnam War, and Ricardo Barreiro used it for a brief story about the Falklands War.

Argentina held national presidential and legislative elections on Sunday, 28 October 2007, and elections for provincial governors took place on staggered dates throughout the year. For the national elections, each of the 23 provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires are considered electoral districts. Voter turnout was 76.2%. Buenos Aires Province Senator and First Lady Cristina Fernández de Kirchner of the Front for Victory won the election by 45.28% of votes against Elisa Carrió of Civic Coalition ARI, making her the second female president of Argentina and the first female president to be directly elected. She broke the 40 percent barrier and won in the first round. Elisa Carrió won in the city of Buenos Aires and came second with more than 20 percent of the votes. Third was Roberto Lavagna, who won in Córdoba.

However, Monsterwax is a small privately owned company focusing primarily on non-licensed entertainment cards. They usually release only one to three series a year.
