Ricardo de Montreuil (born May 17, 1974) has achieved recognition in a wide range of media, including film, television, advertising and print.
Born in Lima, Peru, de Montreuil was raised in the coastal city of Trujillo, a midsize city in north Peru. He is the son of Ricardo de Montreuil and Carolina Iturri. As a child, de Montreuil studied painting at the Trujillo Fine Arts School and later he was trained by the renowned Peruvian painter Pedro Azabache. After finishing high-school in Trujillo, de Montreuil travel to the United States to study film. De Montreuil graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a BA in Graphic Design, an MA in Graphic Design and a minor in Film and Art History. He later studied directing under Judith Weston in Los Angeles.
For his first short film Amiga, de Montreuil received a Creative Achievement Award at the Festival du Film de Paris and was the recipient of a Jury Selection prize at the Biarritz Film Festival.
His debut feature film, La mujer de mi hermano (My Brother's Wife), based on a novel by the controversial Peruvian author Jaime Bayly, was acquired by distributors Twentieth Century Fox for distribution in Latin America, and by Lionsgate for US theatrical distribution. My Brother's Wife is one of the most successful films in the history of Latin American exhibition, and enjoyed both the largest release and biggest opening weekend box-office for a Latin film in the US at the time. The film features some of Latin America's leading actors, including Bárbara Mori, Christian Meier, Manolo Cardona, Angélica Aragón, Beto Cuevas and Bruno Bichir.
His film Mancora was selected for competition in the World Drama category at the Sundance Film Festival 2008. The film cast includes Elsa Pataky, Enrique Murciano, Jason Day, Phellipe Haagensen and Liz Gallardo. Mancora was also invited and presented to be screened at South by Southwest film festival by Elizabeth Avellan, producer of Sin City and Grindhouse . Mancora was also selected at several other prestigious films festivals around the world, [1] such as Edinburgh International Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, Stockholm International Film Festival, São Paulo International Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, Miami International Film Festival and Bergen International Film Festival. His next short film was The Raven was released in 2010. The story revolved around a man that possesses a power that could lead to the destruction of the current regime, and they will stop at nothing to destroy him. [3] Universal has acquired the rights to The Raven. Mark Wahlberg is producing the feature-length project alongside partner Steve Levinson in what is being developed as a starring vehicle for the actor. [4]
De Montreuil's first job out of college was as Art Director for Contents , an art magazine published in Savannah, Georgia. De Montreuil's first task was to redesign the whole magazine, and to come up with a new grid for it. That issue was published in Print magazine as one of the best works from the region. Since then the magazine has won several awards for its design. Contents a consistent winner in the annual design competitions of Print magazine, Communication Arts magazine and the Society of Publication Designers' Print magazine. PDN ( Photo District News ) honored Contents magazine on an Award of Merit for Design Excellence in their annual issue of editorial design. The magazine still makes use of de Montreuil's design and grid 10 years after his departure from the magazine.
De Montreuil has also enjoyed success in the music video world. He has directed videos for such leading artists as Andrea Echeverri, Plastilina Mosh and Nicole. Plastilina Mosh's music video "Peligroso Pop" was nominated for Best Alternative Video at the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America in 2003 and Nicole's music video "Vida" was selected for the South by Southwest film festival. De Montreuil has also been active in the world of television commercial directing. He directed several commercial spots for "Truth", a nationwide anti-tobacco campaign, and was the first Latin director invited to participate in the campaign. He has directed spots for a wide range of major companies including Coca-Cola, McDonald's and MTV. His commercials for Hewlett Packard were nominated at the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival in France. He has also won several Promax and BDA awards for his achievement in television creative and art direction. [6]
De Montreuil is currently Creative Director at newly launched NBC Universal channel Mun2. Since his involvement with the company began, the channel has had massive ratings growth. Prior to this, De Montreuil was Senior Creative at MTV Networks Latin America for many years, where he oversaw the overall promotional design and content of MTV channels throughout the Latin American region. De Montreuil was selected as one of Advertising Age's 40 Under 40 of 2006 and one of the 10 Hispanic raising starts in Hollywood according to Hispanic magazine in its 2008 entertainment issue.
César Abraham Vallejo Mendoza was a Peruvian poet, writer, playwright, and journalist. Although he published only two books of poetry during his lifetime, he is considered one of the great poetic innovators of the 20th century in any language. Thomas Merton called him "the greatest universal poet since Dante". The late British poet, critic and biographer Martin Seymour-Smith, a leading authority on world literature, called Vallejo "the greatest twentieth-century poet in any language." He was a member of the intellectual community called North Group formed in the Peruvian north coastal city of Trujillo.
Marinera is a partner dance that originated along the coastal regions of Peru, using handkerchiefs as props. The dance is a mix of Spanish contradanza and Andean zamacueca, and is a stylized reenactment of a courtship, showing a blend of the different cultures of Peru. The dance has gained recognition throughout South America and is known as the most prominent traditional dance of Peru. The city of Trujillo has been recognized as the national birthplace of the marinera since 1986. The Marinera Festival, a cultural event dedicated to marinera held in Trujillo, although as of 2023 the festival has been held in the city of Lima. These annual competitions of the dance have taken place since 1960. In 2012, the Congress of Peru observed nationally October 7 as a commemorative day for the marinera.

The Premios MTV Latinoamérica were the Latin American version of the Video Music Awards. They were established in 2002 to celebrate the top music videos of the year in Latin America and the world. They are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Networks Latin America. Until 2004, all the VMALAs were held in Miami. The 2005 edition was the first one planned to be held outside the United States, but the show was cancelled. The 2006 VMALAs were held in Mexico City, and therefore were the first ones to actually be celebrated in Latin America. In 2010 the awards were permanently cancelled.
Plastilina Mosh are a Mexican electronic and alternative rock band formed in 1997. They are part of the musical movement known as Avanzada Regia. Jonás González is the lead singer and guitar player. Alejandro Rosso is more involved with the creative process, providing most of the instrumentation and occasional background vocals.

While the Peruvian film industry has not been nearly as prolific as that of some other Latin American countries, such as Mexico or Argentina, some Peruvian movies produced enjoyed regional success. Historically, the cinema of Peru began in Iquitos in 1932 by Antonio Wong Rengifo because of the rubber boom and the intense arrival of foreigners with technology to the city, and thus continued an extensive, unique filmography, with a different style than the films made in the capital, Lima.

The band incorporates elements of electronica, Cuban son, Dominican Palo, reggae, dancehall, dub, hip-hop, house music, Colombian cumbia, and drum'n'bass dance rhythms.

Her literary work is known for addressing bi-cultural themes that deal with the immigration experience of Mexicans crossing over to the United States. José Tillán is a media executive and professional musician, composer and producer whose career has primarily been focused on the Latin music industry. Tillán launched MATT Entertainment in 1993, where he managed Cuban-American singer-songwriter Nil Lara, Peruvian pop-roots singer-songwriter Pepe Alva and punk-rock outfit Joe Popp. After approximately 4 years as an artist manager, he closed MATT Entertainment and joined MTV Networks as the director of music and talent.

Jason Archer is an American artist living in Austin, Texas. He is the creator of a variety artworks as a director, animator, painter, and muralist both collaborative and solo. His work includes political satire and Texas inspired characters including Jesus Cornbread & the Alcoholics and Stray of the Dead. Archer’s early career in animation earned him a Grammy and an MTV Video of the Year Award for directing and animating "Frijolero", a music video for the Mexican rock band Molotov. Currently, Archer co-owns Show Goat Mural Works, a company that installs large scale murals such as Daniel Johnston’s ‘Love is the Question. Love is the Answer’ and his very own ‘Conservatorium of Infinite Wisdom, Sustenance and Guidance.’ Archer has participated in numerous art shows, exhibitions and events ranging from SXSW, East Austin Studio Tour and the inaugural Pop Austin International Art Show.
Lowriders is a 2016 American drama film directed by Ricardo de Montreuil, written by Elgin James and Cheo Hodari Coker, and starring Demián Bichir, Gabriel Chavarria, Theo Rossi, Melissa Benoist, Tony Revolori and Eva Longoria. It was released on May 12, 2017. The film received mixed reviews from critics and has grossed $6 million.
Machaca Fest is an annual music, art, and norteño traditional festival in Monterrey, Nuevo León, the largest city in northern Mexico. The event mainly showcases Latin American talent from Rock en español. Other musical genres are also featured.
