Richard Dyle Bezuidenhout [1] (born 10 August 1982) is a Tanzanian-born Canadian film actor and producer who won [2] the second season of the reality competition Big Brother Africa (season 2) in 2007. [3]

Film career

Bezuidenhout's film acting and production careers [4] started after winning Big brother Africa show in 2007. Right after the show, he was cast in Nollywood film 'Player no.1' with Ini Edo, Jackie Appiah, [5] following a successful career in Bongo movies film industry including a 2008 film, 'Family Tears' collaborating with the likes of Steven Kanumba and Wema Sepetu. He used part of the money he won in the competition to buy filming equipment to start producing his own movies. In 2011 he starred in an award winning film, 'Zamora' starred by Richa Adhia. [6]

Big Brother controversies

Bezuidenhout could be named as one of the most controversial [7] Big Brother Africa show’s winners. [8] That is because of his sexual affairs [9] with Nigerian contestant, Ofunneka Molokwu, who was totally drunk by the moment of their relation’s edge. Despite that on the next day Ofunneka told Big Brother, that she totally understood, what was going on, many viewers accused Bezuidenhout of the sexual abuse, [10] nevertheless, he went on winning the show. [11]

Even after winning the show, the troubles for him continued when rumors of an affair between Bezuidenhout and his Angolan housemate Tatiana, [12] [13] was revealed. Also, a fellow housemate called Kemens [14] blamed the show managers for his exit from the show labeled it as 'planned' since he thought Bezuidenhout did more controversial thing compared to what he had done. [15]

Big Brother Africa 5 was the fifth season of the Big Brother Africa reality television series produced by Endemol. The season premiered on Sunday, July 18, 2010 and was broadcast by M-Net and M-NetAfrica for 91 days, concluding on October 17, 2010 when Nigeria's Uti was crowned the ultimate winner. Each week the Housemates nominated two of their own and the public voted to either save or evict them until only 5 Housemates remained on finale night. The grand prize for this season was initially $200,000, however, due to the strike that took place on Day 6, the grand prize was decreased by ten percent meaning that the winner will now receive $180,000. Since that incident and toward the end of the series, the grand prize has been reinstated as $200,000 although this reinstatement was never formally announced to the housemates and the public. 14 African countries took part in this year's series, namely: Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe). Morris Herbert Mugisha, commonly known as Morris Mugisha is a Ugandan actor, director, photographer, model and reality television star commonly known for representing Uganda to the third season of Big Brother Africa in 2008 and his debut directorial feature film Stain which received twelve at the Uganda Film Festival Awards, winning five and also won an award at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2021.
