Richard Lynch is a Welsh television and film actor best known for playing the character of Garry Monk [1] [2] in S4C's long-running Welsh-language soap Pobol y Cwm .
Lynch is an alumnus of Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen, a Welsh Medium comprehensive school near Pontypridd. He graduated with in Drama from Aberystwyth University in 1987. [3]
Lynch first came to prominence in the 1986 Karl Francis' film Milwr Bychan playing young soldier Will Thomas. [4] [5] Further film appearances include Branwen (1994), Darklands (1996), The Proposition (1997), and Y Mabinogi (2003). [6] Lynch starred in numerous television productions and series, including The Christmas Stallion (1992), The Lifeboat (1994), Tales from Pleasure Beach (2001) [6] and Hinterland/Y Gwyll.
In 2013 Lynch was awarded a Fellowship of Aberystwyth University. [3]
Pobol y Cwm is a Welsh language soap opera which has been produced by the BBC since October 1974. The longest-running television soap opera produced by the BBC, Pobol y Cwm was originally transmitted on BBC One Wales and later transferred to the Welsh-language station S4C when it opened in November 1982.

John Hefin MBE was a Welsh television producer and director who served as head of drama at BBC Wales. He began working for the BBC in 1960, and his career at the corporation included devising the long-running Welsh soap opera Pobol y Cwm, co-writing and directing the comedy film Grand Slam, and producing the 1981 biopic The Life and Times of David Lloyd George. He was later involved with the work of Film Cymru, the Film Commission Wales, and the media journal Cyfrwng. He also worked in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University. He died from cancer in November 2012.

Hinterland — Y Gwyll in the original Welsh-language version — is a Welsh noir police procedural series broadcast on S4C in the Welsh language. The main character, DCI Tom Mathias, is played by Richard Harrington. On 27 November 2013, a second series was announced by S4C. The English-language version, with brief passages of Welsh dialogue, aired on BBC One Wales. When it was shown on the BBC in 2014, it was the first BBC television drama with dialogue in both English and Welsh. A third series of the show began filming in January 2016 and debuted on S4C on 30 October.
