Mzameni Richard Mdakane (born 1 January 1955) is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly since March 2023 and previously from 2009 until 2019,when he failed to gain re-election. Before that,he represented the party in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for fifteen years from 1994 to 2009;he also served a term as Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2004 to 2009.
Mdakane was born on 1 January 1955 in Dundee (later known as KwaThalane) in the former Natal province. His mother was a domestic worker and his father was a migrant worker. [1] After finishing high school,Mdakane moved to Johannesburg,where his father worked,and grew increasingly active in anti-apartheid youth politics,including through the Alexandra Civic Organisation and the ANC underground. [1]
Mdakane was first elected to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 1994,representing the ANC,and he was re-elected to his seat in 1999 and 2004. After the 2004 general election,he was additionally elected,unopposed,as Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. [2]
After a full legislative term as Speaker,Mdakane stood for election to the National Assembly,the lower house of the national Parliament,in the 2009 general election. He served ten years in the National Assembly,securing re-election to his seat in the 2014 general election. [3] After the 2014 general election,he was also elected unopposed to chair the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. [4]
In the 2019 general election,Mdakane stood for re-election to the National Assembly,but he was ranked 144th on the ANC's national party list and did not secure a seat. [3]
On 16 March 2023,he entered the National Assembly as a replacement for former Nathi Mthethwa,who resigned as a Member of Parliament after being axed in a cabinet reshuffle on 6 March 2023. [1]

Gauteng is one of the nine multi-member constituencies of the National Assembly of South Africa,the lower house of the Parliament of South Africa,the national legislature of South Africa. The constituency was established as Pretoria–Witwatersrand–Vereeniging in 1994 when the National Assembly was established by the Interim Constitution following the end of Apartheid. It was renamed Gauteng in 1999. It is conterminous with the province of Gauteng. The constituency currently elects 48 of the 400 members of the National Assembly using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2019 general election it had 6,381,220 registered electors.
Mohatla Alfred Tseki is a South African politician who has served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. Prior to his election to parliament,Tseki served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019. He is a member of the African National Congress.
Claudia Nonhlanhla Ndaba is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,she has served as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Women,Youth and People with Disabilities since 2019 and has been a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2014. She served as Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Filling of Vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality twice during her first term in parliament. Prior to her election to parliament,Ndaba served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2014.

She previously served as a Member of the National Assembly from 2014 to 2019 and as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 2014;she was Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2014. She is a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and was Provincial Treasurer of the ANC in Gauteng from 2001 to 2010.
Humphrey Mmemezi is a South African politician and civil servant who has served as a Member of the National Assembly from March 2023. He previously served in the National Assembly between 2014 and 2019 and served as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Works from 2017. He was formerly a Member of the Executive Council for Local Government and Housing in the Gauteng provincial government from 2010 to 2012. He resigned from the provincial government in July 2012 when he was found guilty of contravening the legislature's code of conduct and ethics,including in using his government credit card for personal expenses.
Gladstone Mandlenkosi "Mandla" Nkomfe is a South African politician who was Member of the Executive Council for Finance in the Gauteng provincial government from 2009 to 2014. From 1999 to 2014,he was a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature,serving as the legislature's Chairperson of Committees and then as its Majority Chief Whip. He was also the Deputy Provincial Secretary of the Gauteng branch of his political party,the African National Congress,from 1998 to 2010.
Sizakele Emelda Nkosi-Malobane is a South African politician who is currently serving as the Chairperson of Committees in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 2019. She was formerly Gauteng's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Community Safety from 2014 to 2019,and she has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the provincial legislature since 2009.
Dikgang "Uhuru" Moiloa is a South African politician who was Gauteng's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Human Settlements from March 2018 to May 2019.
