Floor crossing was a system introduced to the post-apartheid South African political system in 2002, under which members of Parliament, members of provincial legislatures and local government councillors could change political party and take their seats with them when they did so. Floor crossing in South Africa was abolished in January 2009.

He resigned from the DA in 2005 and joined the African National Congress. Nkem-Abonta left parliament at the 2009 general election.
Douglas Harvey Monro Gibson is a South African retired attorney, politician and diplomat who served as South Africa's ambassador to Thailand between 2008 and 2012. Previously, he had served as chief whip of the opposition from 1999 to 2007, as chairperson of the federal council of the Democratic Party between 1997 and 2000, and as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa between 1994 and 2008.
Gauteng is one of the nine multi-member constituencies of the National Assembly of South Africa, the lower house of the Parliament of South Africa, the national legislature of South Africa. The constituency was established as Pretoria–Witwatersrand–Vereeniging in 1994 when the National Assembly was established by the Interim Constitution following the end of Apartheid. It was renamed Gauteng in 1999. It is conterminous with the province of Gauteng. The constituency currently elects 48 of the 400 members of the National Assembly using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2019 general election it had 6,381,220 registered electors.

The constituency was established in 1994 when the National Assembly was established by the Interim Constitution following the end of Apartheid. It is conterminous with the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The constituency currently elects 41 of the 400 members of the National Assembly using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2019 general election it had 5,524,666 registered electors.
Gerhardus Willem Koornhof is a South African politician and economist who serves as the Parliamentary Counsellor to President Cyril Ramaphosa. When Ramaphosa served as deputy president, Koornhof was his parliament counsellor. An MP since 1994, Koornhof currently represents the African National Congress, though he previously represented United Democratic Movement between 1999 and 2003 and the National Party/New National Party before that.
The Provincial Executive Committees (PECs) of the African National Congress (ANC) are the chief executive organs of the party's nine provincial branches. Comprising the so-called “Top Five” provincial officials and up to 30 additional elected members, each is structured similarly to the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) and is elected every four years at party provincial conferences.

Kgosientsho "Sputla" Ramokgopa is a South African politician who is the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity. He was the Mayor of Tshwane from 2010 to 2016. He was also a Member of the Executive Council in the Gauteng provincial government in 2019 and worked in the Presidency of South Africa as head of infrastructure from 2019 to 2023.
Gladstone Mandlenkosi "Mandla" Nkomfe is a South African politician who was Member of the Executive Council for Finance in the Gauteng provincial government from 2009 to 2014. From 1999 to 2014, he was a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, serving as the legislature's Chairperson of Committees and then as its Majority Chief Whip. He was also the Deputy Provincial Secretary of the Gauteng branch of his political party, the African National Congress, from 1998 to 2010.
Francois Beukman is a South African attorney and former politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 1999 to 2009 and again from 2014 to 2019.
Mzameni Richard Mdakane is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly since March 2023 and previously from 2009 until 2019, when he failed to gain re-election. Before that, he represented the party in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for fifteen years from 1994 to 2009; he also served a term as Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2004 to 2009.
Ndawoyakhe Wilson Ngcobo is a South African politician who served in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature from 1999 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2014. In the interim, he served briefly in the National Assembly from 2006 to 2009. He was a member of the Democratic Party (DP), later the Democratic Alliance (DA), until September 2005, when he crossed the floor to join the African National Congress (ANC). In 2015, he left the ANC to establish the National Religious Freedom Party, a KwaZulu-Natal-based party of which Ngcobo is president.
Carl Heinrich Friederich Greyling is a South African politician who represented the Western Cape in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2009. He was the chief whip of the New National Party (NNP) until September 2005, when he crossed the floor to the African National Congress (ANC).
Somangamane Benjamin Ntuli is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1999 to 2009. He chaired the Portfolio Committee on Defence from 2008 to 2009.
