Richard John Pennycook CBE (born February 1964) was chief executive officer of the Co-operative Group. [1]

In February 2017, Pennycook stepped down as CEO of The Co-operative Group after three years at the helm, with Steve Murrells (previously CEO of Co-op Food division) taking charge. [5]
Pennycook was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to retail. [6]

Established as a bank for co-operators and co-operatives following the principles of the Rochdale Pioneers the business evolved over the twentieth century into a mid sized British high street bank operating throughout the UK mainland.
