Richard Wejuli Wabwire is a Ugandan lawyer and judge, on the High Court of Uganda. [1] He was appointed to the High Court on 8 February 2018. [2]

Background and education

He was born in Uganda, circa 1967. He studied law at Makerere University, Uganda's largest and oldest public university, graduating in 1989 with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. The next year, he received a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice, from the Law Development Centre, in Kampala, the national capital. He was then admitted to the Uganda Bar, as a practicing attorney. [3]

He also studied at the University of Strathclyde, in the United Kingdom, graduating with a Certificate in Project Evaluation & Management in 1992 and a Master of Business Administration degree in 1995. [3]

Work experience

In November 1998, he was hired by BAT Uganda, as Company Secretary, Legal Counsel and Head of Legal & Regulatory Affairs. He served there, in that capacity for the next 7.25 years. In February 2006, he transferred to Kinyara Sugar Works Limited, working there as Corporation Secretary, for the next two years. [3]

After brief stints at National Water and Sewerage Corporation (6 months) and at Century Bottlers Uganda (10 months), he was hired by Pine Consult Limited, as a Corporate Legal and Regulatory Consultant, working there for two years. [3]

In January 2012, he was hired by East African Breweries Uganda Limited, a subsidiary of the British conglomerate Diageo Plc. He worked there for the next 2.5 years, as the director of corporate relations and regulatory affairs. [3]

From November 2014 until he was appointed as a judge in February 2018, he served as the Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Affairs at the National Social Security Fund of Uganda. [3] [4]

Judicial career

He was appointed as a judge of the High Court of Uganda in February 2018. [2] In March 2018, he was initially posted to the High Court Circuit in the city of Fort Portal, in the Western Region of Uganda. [5] In 2019, he was reassigned to the Commercial Division of the High Court. [1]

Other considerations

He served as a board member at Kampala Serena Hotel, from February 2015 until February 2018. At the NSSF Uganda, he was a member of the board of Directors. [3] He was replaced there, by Agnes Tibayeyita Isharaza, who was appointed, effective 1 April 2019. [6]

Court of Appeal of Uganda

The Court of Appeal of Uganda is the second-highest judicial organ in Uganda. It derives its powers from Article 134 of the 1995 Constitution. It is an appellate court when hearing cases appealed from the High Court of Uganda. However, it has original jurisdiction when adjudicating matters relating to the constitutionality of matters before it. All judgments by the Court of Appeal are theoretically appealable to the Supreme Court of Uganda, if the Supreme Court decides to hear the appeal.

Keturah Kitariisibwa Katunguka,, also Ketrah Katunguka, is a Ugandan lawyer and judge who serves as a justice of the High Court of Uganda, since 11 March 2016.

Monica Kalyegira Mugenyi is a Ugandan lawyer and judge, who, on 4 October 2019, was nominated to sit on the Uganda Court of Appeal.

Sarah Irene Walusimbi is a Ugandan lawyer and who serves as the Corporation Secretary of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC).

High Court of Uganda

The High Court of Uganda, also Uganda High Court, is the third-highest judicial organ in Uganda, behind the Supreme Court of Uganda and the Court of Appeal of Uganda. It has "unlimited original jurisdiction", with powers to try any case of any value or crime of any magnitude. It is also mandated to hear all appeals from all Magistrates Courts. High Court judgements are appealable to the Uganda Court of Appeal.

Lydia Mugambe Ugandan lawyer; judge and Inspector General of Government(IGG)

Lydia Mugambe, is the Inspector General of Government (IGG) as of March 2022, a Ugandan lawyer who served as judge at the High Court of Uganda between May 2013 and September 2020. She was appointed to the High Court by President Yoweri Museveni, on 3 May 2013. Lady Justice Mugambe Ssali was subsequently appointed by President Museveni as Inspector General of Government on 18th September 2020
