Richie Muheya is a Malawian politician and educator. He was the former Minister of Irrigation and Water Development in Malawi, [1] having been appointed to the position in early 2010 by the former president of Malawi Bingu wa Mutharika. His term began on 9 August 2010. [2] [3]
The flag of Malawi was officially adopted on 6 July 1964 when the colony of Nyasaland became independent from British rule and renamed itself Malawi.
General elections were held in Malawi on 20 May 2004 to elect a President and the National Assembly. The election had originally been scheduled for 18 May but was postponed for two days in response to opposition complaints of irregularities in the voter roll. By 22 May no results had been announced,leading to protests from the opposition and threats of disorder. On 25 May the Malawi Electoral Commission finally announced the results of the election. Bingu wa Mutharika,the candidate of the ruling United Democratic Front,was declared the winner of the presidential poll,whilst the Malawi Congress Party had won most seats in the National Assembly vote. Voter turnout was around 62%.
Bingu wa Mutharika was a Malawian politician and economist who was President of Malawi from May 2004 until his death in April 2012. He was also President of the Democratic Progressive Party,which he founded in February 2005;it obtained a majority in Malawi's parliament in the 2009 general election.

The Lomwe people are Bantu tribes found in Mozambique and Malawi. Their language is commonly spoken throughout central Mozambique. In Malawi,people speak the Malawi Lomwe language. Late former president Bingu wa Mutharika and his brother,Peter Mutharika,belong to this ethnic group.

Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe is the national stadium of Malawi. It is used for football matches and also has an athletics track. It hosts the home games of the Malawi national football team. It holds 41,100 people. It is named after former Malawian president Bingu wa Mutharika. This stadium became Ethiopian Football Federation home arena. This follows Ethiopian Football Federation request to CAF to use BNS as their national stadium is banned to host international matches for lacking minimum requirements as per the CAF Club Licensing criteria.
The 2022 COSAFA Under-17 Championship was the 11th edition of the COSAFA U-17 Championship,a football tournament organized by the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) involving teams from Southern Africa for players aged 17 and below.
