Rida Bilal (born 1 January 1984) is a Pakistani screenwriter and playwright known for her work in television drama. She gained prominence for writing the critically acclaimed series Khudgarz (2017), which earned her the Lux Style Award for Best Emerging Talent in Television in 2019. [1] [2] [3]

Early life and career

Bilal was born in Karachi, Pakistan. She holds a degree in Film and Television from the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST). [1] Prior to her screenwriting career, she worked in content management roles at various television channels. [4] Her early interest in writing began with journaling and poetry during childhood. [5]

Bilal's first televised drama was Be Inteha (2017), a romantic series which aired on Urdu 1. She had previously written Khudgarz, which aired later the same year and was noted for its progressive and realistic portrayal of social issues. [5] In 2019, she wrote Dil Hi Toh Hai, a mini-series that aimed to challenge societal stereotypes. Bilal also ventured into short films; her thesis project, Bachpan, which addresses the impact of divorce on children, was screened at T2F in Karachi in 2020. [6] [7] [8]

Her subsequent works include Zakham (2022), Jaan-e-Jahan (2023), and Grey (2023), the latter of which delves into the complexities of harassment allegations. [9] In 2025, she wrote Behroopia , a psychological drama featuring Faysal Quraishi in multiple roles. [10] [11] [12]
