The Musikfest am Ring (aka Ringfest) was an annual outdoor music event [1] in Cologne, Germany held for the first time in 1993 and halted in 2006. In various locations of downtown Cologne stages were set up and live bands performed and also other events were presented. The Ringfest used to be held at the MediaPark, on the Cologne Ring and the Neumarkt square. In 1993 some 300000 visitors attended the festival already, growing to around 2000000 people in 1997, causing the organizers to claim the event to be the world's largest music festival. [2] In 2005, about 500000 visitors attended the festival.

The Ringfest was held for the first time in 1993. Approximately 200 bands have performed each year. Famous German groups such as Selig, Element of Crime, Die Fantastischen Vier, Brings, Fettes Brot, Caught in the Act, Söhne Mannheims, Guano Apes, H-Blockx, Cultured Pearls  [ de ], Sabrina Setlur, Götz Alsmann, Jürgen Drews, Anne Haigis, Extrabreit, Reamonn, and Sportfreunde Stiller, local bands such as Bläck Fööss, Höhner, Zeltinger Band  [ de ], The Piano Has Been Drinking  [ de ], Rausch  [ de ], Lecker Sachen  [ de ], Renate Otta, Die Firma and Basta  [ de ], as well as international stars such as Heather Nova, Sparks, Joshua Kadison, Runrig, The King, Julian Dawson, Cardigans, Manowar, Paul Carrack, Motörhead and Geri Halliwell have also performed. Since 2006 the Ringfest has not been held any longer. The organizers have justified the lack of organization with the difficulties of the music market.

In the last three years of its life Ringfest held parallel to the music fair Popkomm, which has taken place in Berlin since 2004.

Since 2004, the c/o pop  [ de ] festival has been held in Cologne. The festival focuses on electronic pop music. At the premiere 2004 50000 visitors attended the festival.

Starting in 1970, at Burgemeester Damen Sportpark in the city of Geleen, Pinkpop is the oldest and longest running annual dedicated pop and rock music festival in the world.

Wacken Open Air German heavy metal music festival

Wacken Open Air is a heavy metal music festival, held annually since 1990 on the first weekend of August in the village of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Almost all styles of hard rock and metal are represented. It is now one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany. Between 2011–2018, the number of attendees was around 85,000, 75,000 of whom were paying visitors. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were no 2020 and 2021 editions of Wacken Open Air.

Zelt-Musik-Festival Music festival in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

The Zelt-Musik-Festival (ZMF) has taken place every June and July since 1983 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. It lasts three weeks and counts up to 120,000 visitors each year. The program is very broad. There is music, art, theater, cabaret and sport in different tents and on open-air stages. According to the organizer it is the biggest and oldest music festival in Baden-Württemberg. AnnenMayKantereit

AnnenMayKantereit is a German rock band founded in Cologne in 2011. Their songs are predominantly performed in German, but the band also occasionally publish cover songs in English. A notable feature of the band's music is the distinctly rough voice of the singer Henning May.

Fluff Fest

Fluff Fest is an independent hardcore punk festival held each July at the Czech town of Rokycany, near Plzeň (Pilsen). A significant event for the DIY music scene of the Czech Republic and the punk subculture of Europe, it is associated with movements such as veganism, anarchism, feminism, anti-fascism, and straight edge. It features an international lineup of bands from diverse punk rock genres including hardcore, crust punk, emo, and grindcore, as well as talks and zines. Catering is provided by local animal rights organization Svoboda zvířat.

Theatron-Festival German music festival

The admission-free "Theatron" music festival in Munich has been held since the early 1970s and attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually. Birlikte is the name and motto of a series of semi-annual rallies and corresponding cultural festivals against right-wing extremist violence in Germany, which first took place on 9 June 2014 in Cologne. The term "birlikte" is Turkish and means "together".

Arsch huh, Zäng ussenander is the motto and name of a campaign against right-wing violence in Cologne, Germany. The colloquial slogan in the local dialect Kölsch literally means "Ass up, teeth apart!" encouraging people to not look away but to stand up, speak out and take action against racism and injustice.

Thomas Mohr is a German operatic tenor and academic voice teacher. He began his career as a baritone, but moved on to heldentenor and has performed roles in all tenor parts of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen at Der Ring in Minden. He has appeared at major international opera houses and concert halls, and made recordings. Mohr is a professor of voice at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. He also runs an agricultural estate where he founded a music festival.
