Danielle Stech-Homsy, known by her pseudonym Rio en Medio (Spanish for river in between), is an American singer and baritone ukulelist. [1]
Stech-Homsy was born in New Mexico, and was raised in California and Arizona. [2] Later, she moved to Brooklyn. [3] She began to perform and record original compositions, eventually recording The Bride of Dynamite (originally titled A Bride's Guide to Waiting Music). [4] A friend passed the record to Devendra Banhart who soon requested to release it on his label (Gnomonsong). [2] [3] Since her debut release in early 2007, Stech-Homsy has worked with artists such as Grizzly Bear, CocoRosie, Brightblack Morning Light, Vetiver, Patrick Wolf, Vashti Bunyan, Tim Fite and Banhart. In 2008, Stech-Homsy recorded a cover of "Pictures of You" by The Cure for Perfect as Cats: A Tribute to The Cure . [6]
Rio en Medio's third album, Peace Sequence, was released in 2013 on the label Womens Work Recordings. [7]
Overall, Stech-Homsy's music falls into the freak folk genre. [8] Writing for Pitchfork, Matthew Murphy described The Bride of Dynamite as "ethereal" with "delicate" vocals, but concluded it was overall "halting, hesitant baby steps" for Stech-Homsy. [1] Later, Joshua Klein wrote that her second album, Frontier, is "indulgent and confounding" and "part cosmic fun house, part haunted house". [9]
Devendra Obi Banhart is a Venezuelan singer-songwriter and visual artist. Banhart was born in Texas and raised in Venezuela and California. In 2000, he dropped out of the San Francisco Art Institute to pursue a musical career. In 2002, Banhart released his debut album and is best known for his albums in the late 2000s such as Cripple Crow and Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. He has since expanded his career to incorporate his interest and training in the visual arts.

Jennifer Vashti Bunyan is an English singer-songwriter. She began her career in the mid-1960s and released a debut album, Just Another Diamond Day, in 1970. The album sold very few copies and Bunyan, discouraged, abandoned her musical career. By 2000, her album had acquired a cult following; it was re-released and Bunyan recorded more songs, initiating the second phase of her musical career after a gap of thirty years. She released two more albums, Lookaftering in 2005, and Heartleap in 2014.

James Jeremiah Murphy is an American musician, DJ, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Perfect as Cats: A Tribute to the Cure is a charity record released by Los Angeles indie label Manimal Vinyl on October 28, 2008. It features covers of the Cure favourites by the Dandy Warhols, Bat for Lashes, Kaki King, the Devastations, ex-Godflesh frontman, Justin Broadrick's Jesu, Rio en Medio, Lewis & Clarke, Sarabeth Tucek, Mariee Siou, Xu Xu Fang, Blackblack, Gangi, Rainbow Arabia and over 20 more artists and bands. The record was mastered by Xu Xu Fang's Bobby Tamkin. The proceeds of the album went to the Invisible Children charity which works with the war-torn youth in Sudan.

Ape in Pink Marble is the ninth studio album by folk rock musician Devendra Banhart, released on September 23, 2016 on Nonesuch Records. The album was written, produced, arranged, and recorded in Los Angeles by the singer/songwriter/guitarist with his longtime collaborators Noah Georgeson and Josiah Steinbrick, both of whom also worked on Banhart's previous album, Mala (2013).
