Ripple Music is a California-based independent record label founded in 2010 by Todd Severin [1] and John Rancik. The company encompasses a record label, a music publishing business, a marketing, promotion and sales team, and distribution for independent heavy metal bands (Heavy Ripples Distro). It has become well known in the subculture of underground doom metal and adjacent genres. [2] [3] [4]
Ripple Music, the record label, evolved out of the music site The Ripple Effect, which Severin and Rancik launched in October 2007. With a tagline of "The Best Music You're Not Listening To," the Ripple Effect concentrated on in-depth music reviews of new, lost classic, and unheralded artists. Early in their existence, Severin, a former radio DJ, and Rancik (former lead singer of a punk/metal band, concentrated on reviews from their own extensive record collections and then expanded to include new reviews, interviews, streaming songs, video uploads, downloads, and previews/sneak peeks. The Ripple Effect was ranked as one of the top music sites in the world by GuitarWorld Magazine and several other music sites.[ citation needed ]
As the Ripple Effect's popularity grew, a radio show was added which was originally produced by Chris James Ripple Radio, on blogtalkradio.com. Shortly, Ripple Radio was recognized as one of the featured radio shows at blogtalkradio.com, and guests such as Marky Ramone, Fee Waybill, and Cy Curnin stopped by to chat with Severin (Racer) and Rancik (Pope JTE).
Severin and Rancik were approached by protometal band JPT Scare Band, with the proposition of releasing several previously unheard JPT tracks. This facilitated the start of Ripple Music, the record label. [5] Shortly thereafter, several bands signed with Ripple Music, including two 1970's protometal icons, Poobah and Iron Claw.
Since 2017, the label has hosted several RippleFest events in the United States and Europe as well as RippleFest Virtual in December 2020. [6] [7]
In 2019, the label expanded its presence on the East Coast when co-founder John Rancik moved to Baltimore, Maryland. [8]
In 2020, the label began a 12-inch vinyl series called "Blood and Strings: The Ripple Acoustic." The first release in this series was The Obsessed founder Scott Weinrich's solo album Forever Gone. [9] [10]
As of early 2021, the label lists over 300 releases on Discogs [11] and 189 titles appear on All Music. [12]
In January 2021, Ripple Music was joined by Ozzy Osbourne bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson as its new Executive Vice President of A&R and Special Projects. [13]

Blizzard of Ozz is the debut studio album by English heavy metal vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, released on 12 September 1980 in the UK and on 27 March 1981 in the US. The album was Osbourne's first release following his firing from Black Sabbath in 1979. Blizzard of Ozz is the first of two studio albums Osbourne recorded with guitarist Randy Rhoads prior to Rhoads' death in 1982. The Obsessed is an American heavy metal band from Potomac, Maryland, led by Scott "Wino" Weinrich. The band combines elements of doom metal, stoner rock, and punk rock. Formed in 1980, they recorded a few demos and played a handful of live shows until they first split up in 1986 when Weinrich joined as lead vocalist for Saint Vitus, but reformed four years later. After releasing three albums, the Obsessed broke up for a second time in 1995. After briefly reuniting for some shows in 2012 and 2013, the Obsessed announced their third reunion in March 2016.
Black Label Society is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1998 by guitarist/singer Zakk Wylde. To date, the band has released eleven studio albums, two live albums, two compilation albums, one EP, and three video albums.
Probot was a heavy metal side project of former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. Described by Grohl as "a death metal Supernatural", the album mixes instrumentals recorded by Grohl himself with various metal singers whom the musician admired. The album was released in February 2004 by Southern Lord Records. It featured one single entitled "Centuries of Sin"/"The Emerald Law".
Spirit Caravan was an American doom metal / stoner rock band featuring guitarist and vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich.
Saint Vitus is an American doom metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1978. They are considered to be one of the first doom metal bands, and have been labeled as one of the "big four" of that genre, along with Candlemass, Pentagram and Trouble. Having released nine studio albums to date, Saint Vitus never achieved a popular breakthrough, but have exerted great influence on the development of doom metal, sludge metal, and stoner rock.
Kostas Karamitroudis, better known as Gus G, is a Greek heavy metal guitarist. He currently plays with his band Firewind. He has also played in Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage, Arch Enemy, Dream Evil and Ozzy Osbourne's band.
Robert Scott Weinrich, better known as Wino, is an American singer and guitarist. He has been highly influential in helping develop and codify doom metal's trademark sound, and is also considered an influential figure in the stoner rock and punk rock genres.
Rob "Blasko" Nicholson is an American bassist. He performed on Rob Zombie's solo albums and is currently part of Ozzy Osbourne's band. He is also noted for his contribution as bassist to the metal band Cryptic Slaughter within underground metal circles.
"Bark at the Moon" is a song by heavy metal vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. It was the first single released from his 1983 album of the same name. The music video produced for the song was Osbourne's first. It peaked at #21 on the UK Singles Chart and #12 on Billboard's Album Rock Tracks. The song has received critical praise, frequently being voted one of Ozzy's best songs.
V is the fifth studio album by American doom metal band Saint Vitus, released in 1990. Its title is a reference to the Roman numeral five, not the letter "V" from the English alphabet. The album was the band's first release not on SST Records and the last one to feature singer Scott "Wino" Weinrich.

Over the years, a variety of bands have made up the yearly lineups of Ozzfest, a yearly heavy metal music festival that usually tours the United States in summer.
Taintstick was a satirical American hard rock band, signed to Suburban Noize Records. Their debut album released on October 27, 2009. In 2010, front man Jason Ellis, announced the end of the band after EllisMania 6 and the premiere of his new band, Death! Death! Die!.
Mark Weiss is an American rock music photographer. His most widely recognized photographs capture the look and aesthetic of music and celebrity personalities of the 1980s. His work with publications such as Circus magazine and FACES helped establish Mark "Weissguy" Weiss as a name known for rock photography. He has photographed a wide range of acts including the Rolling Stones, Kiss, Madonna and Wu Tang Clan.
Shrinebuilder was an American stoner/doom metal supergroup consisting of various established musicians, particularly of the doom metal subgenre. Their first and only album, Shrinebuilder, was released in October 2009.
With Vision is the second studio album release by Place of Skulls. It was released in 2003 on the Southern Lord Records label. The recording of this album was marked by numerous personnel changes before the final staff was assembled. This is the only Place of Skulls album to feature Scott Weinrich on vocals and second guitar. He left to concentrate on The Hidden Hand. Writing credits are far more widely distributed among the band members than on their previous album.
The Speak of the Devil Tour was the third solo tour by English heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, in support of his first live album, Speak of the Devil, taking place from December 1982 to May 1983. The tour included two European legs, one North American leg, and a final show at the 1983 US Festival. The personnel in Osbourne's band changed several times during the tour.
Poobah are a rock band from Youngstown, Ohio, U.S., which was founded in 1972 by Jim Gustafson. The band played classic 70s rock or simply rock. Especially the first record Let Me in is a rare collector's item. Prices between $300 and $900 for an original are not uncommon. Poobah released a total of 14 albums from 1972 to 2020. The band gained more popularity through the use of their songs in the television series Graves and the Hollywood film Josie.
