Ripples Nigeria is a Nigerian online newspaper based in Lagos. It was launched in 2015. It is an independent, pro-investigation multi-media online news platform focused primarily on politics, policy and economy. [1]
In October 2017, Ripples Nigeria correspondent Obakeye Akin emerged finalist in the Business and Economy category of the PwC Media Excellence Awards. He was announced third place winner. [2]
In December 2017, Ebere Ndukwu of Ripples Nigeria was among ten Nigerian journalists celebrated at the 12th Wole Soyinka Investigative awards. He got a commendation in the online category. [3]
In February 2018, Kelechukwu Iruoma of Ripples Nigeria, participated in the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and United Nations Foundation Program that produced more than 50 stories on topics such as migration linked to conflict, flooding and desertification, and the resulting impact on health and economic security. He emerged third place winner. [4]
In July 2021, Ripples Nigeria won Google News Initiative Innovation Challenge for Middle East, Turkey and Africa. [5] Its pitch, Eco-Nai+, a geo-data and geo-journalism project, that will lead to the creation of Nigeria's first interactive digital geo-journalism platform, was selected for funding. [6] [7] [8]
Ripples Centre for Data and Investigative Journalism (RCDIJ) is a non-profit organization founded by Ripples Nigeria to support quality multimedia-based projects in investigative and data journalism, training, public advocacy and other social projects in vital areas of public interest in Nigeria. In 2018, the organization launched an annual forum called Ripples Nigeria Dialogue, to encourage debate on the current state of the country. [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15]
Nobel laureate, professor Wole Soyinka gave the keynote address [16] for the maiden edition entitled "Rebuilding trust in a divided Nigeria". [17] His speech was titled Miyetti to Haiti; Notes from a Solidarity Visit. [18] Other notable speakers were former Anambra state governor, Peter Obi, [19] Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi and Pat Utomi. The event was moderated by Reuben Abati former special adviser on media and publicity to former president Goodluck Jonathan. [20]
Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka Hon. FRSL, known as Wole Soyinka, is a Nigerian playwright, novelist, poet, and essayist in the English language. He was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature for his "wide cultural perspective and... poetic overtones fashioning the drama of existence", the first sub-Saharan African to be honoured in that category.

Reuben Adeleye Abati is a Nigerian Journalist, Politician, Television Anchor and Newspaper Columnist. He was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s Deputy Governorship candidate in Ogun State for the 2019 Gubernatorial election. Abati was Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria between Year 2011 and 2015. He was previously a newspaper columnist and the chairman of the editorial board of the Nigerian newspaper The Guardian from 2001 to 2011. He is a graduate of Theater Arts from the University of Calabar. Equally important, Reuben Abati is a Senior Research Associate with the Olusegun Obasanjo Centre for Cultural Studies and National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa is a pan-African writing prize awarded biennially to the best literary work produced by an African. It was established by the Lumina Foundation in 2005 in honour of Africa's first Nobel Laureate in Literature, Wole Soyinka, who presents the prize, which is chosen by an international jury of literary figures. Administered by the Lumina Foundation, the prize has been described as "the African equivalent of the Nobel Prize".
Ber Anena born and previously published as Harriet Anena is a Ugandan writer and performer, whose writing includes poetry, nonfiction and fiction. She is the author of a collection of poems, A Nation In Labour, published in 2015, won the 2018 Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa. The Economist described her poetry performance as "an arresting evocation of love and war".

The Lagos–Kano Standard Gauge Railway is a 1,343 kilometres -long standard gauge railway under construction in Nigeria. Once complete, the railway will connect the Atlantic Ocean port city of Lagos to Kano, near the border with Niger, passing through the national capital of Abuja. The railway replaces the Cape gauge Western Line built by the British in 1896–1927, which has a lower design capacity and is in a deteriorated condition.
Omoyele Yele Sowore is a Nigerian Politician, human rights activist, citizen reporter, writer, lecturer and pro-democracy campaigner, known for founding the online news agency Sahara Reporters. In August 2018, he founded the African Action Congress party and ran as its presidential candidate in the 2019 Nigerian general election. Sowore also ran for President in the 2023 Nigerian General elections.

He is also the executive director of Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ). He was the policy director and chief of staff to the executive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He served as a U.S correspondent, editor and columnist at This Day newspaper. Akinremi is well known for his courage in journalism. On 16 September 2016, he broke a plagiarism story, in which Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari copied from President Barack Obama and passing it off as if it was his own.
