Rise is the debut studio album by American singer Samantha James under the label Om Records. [1] The title track from the album was released as a single, and reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart. [2]
When James established her music style, she began writing songs for Rise together with Sebastian Arocha Morton. James and friend Dave Curtin discussed which label would be good for her music, and came up with Om Records. When they contacted the label and sent them a demo of her song "Rise," she was signed on to a single deal. Shortly after that, they signed on "Angel Love" as well.
After that, she was signed to do a full length album. James said in an interview that her biggest inspiration was her mother, who died when James was 13 years old. [3] The album was a two year process. [4]

Mýa Marie Harrison is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, producer, and actress. Born into a musical family, before entering the music industry she appeared on BET's Teen Summit. Age Ain't Nothing but a Number is the debut studio album by American singer Aaliyah. It was released under Jive and Blackground Records on May 24, 1994, in the United States. After being signed by her uncle Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah was introduced to recording artist and producer R. Kelly. He became her mentor, as well as the lead songwriter and producer of the album. The duo recorded the album at the Chicago Recording Company in Chicago, Illinois. The album featured two hit singles; the top ten-charting "Back & Forth" and "At Your Best "; both singles were certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). A Nu Day is the second studio album by Canadian recording artist Tamia. It was released by Elektra Records on October 10, 2000, following her transition from Qwest Records. A less ballad-driven collection of songs and more progressive approach than her debut effort, Tamia worked with a smaller number of songwriters and producers on the album, including Dallas Austin, Shep Crawford, Missy Elliott, Bink!, Errol "Poppi" McCalla, and Jazz Nixon, some of whom would become frequent collaborators on subsequent albums.
