Human rights in Uganda as a state relates to the difficulties in the achievement of international rights standards for all citizens. These difficulties centre upon the provision of proper sanitation facilities, internal displacement, development of adequate infrastructure, as well as the mistreatment of the LGBT community, women, and children. Nonetheless, Uganda is, as per the Relief Web sponsored Humanitarian Profile – 2012, making considerable developments in this area.

Women in Uganda have substantial economic and social responsibilities throughout Uganda's many traditional societies. Ugandan women come from a range of economic and educational backgrounds. Despite economic and social progress throughout the country, domestic violence and sexual assault remain prevalent issues in Uganda. Illiteracy is directly correlated to increased level of domestic violence. This is mainly because household members can not make proper decisions that directly affect their future plans. Government reports suggest rising levels of domestic violence toward women that are directly attributable to poverty.
The Center for Women's Global Leadership, based at Rutgers University, was founded in 1989 by Charlotte Bunch, the former executive director and an internationally renowned activist for women's human rights. Executive Director Krishanti Dharmaraj is also the founder of the Dignity Index and co-founder of WILD for Human Rights and the Sri Lanka Children's Fund. The former executive director, Radhika Balakrishnan, is now the faculty director, and a professor in the Department of Women's and Gender Studies at Rutgers, chair of the Board of the US Human Rights Network, and a board member of the Center for Constitutional Rights. Located on Douglass Residential College at Rutgers University, CWGL is a unit of International Programs within the School of Arts and Sciences and is a member of the Institute for Women's Leadership, a consortium of women's programs at Rutgers.
Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera is a Ugandan LGBT rights activist and the founder and executive director of the LGBT rights organization Freedom & Roam Uganda (FARUG). She received the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders in 2011 and the Right Livelihood Award in 2015.

The Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-U), established in 1974, is a pioneer of legal aid and public education in sub Saharan Africa. It is a membership based organization which has been an NGO since 1999.
Rita Atukwasa is a Member of the Parliament of Uganda in the Eleventh Parliament, Public Policy Analyst, Gender specialist and Trainer for Gender and Equity Budgeting. She is also a former Executive director at The Institute for Social Transformation (IST) Uganda. She is the Woman Member of Parliament of Mbarara district having won the January, 2021 as an independent candidate. Rita is also a member of the Gender Based Violence Prevention Network.
Primah Kwagala is a Ugandan civil and human rights lawyer and CEO of the Women’s Probono Initiative (WPI) in Uganda. She has handled cases involving illegal detentions in health facilities, access to emergency obstetric care and to free vital medicines, and more. She is the Chairperson of Female Lawyers in the Uganda Law Society. Kwagala was awarded the 2020 Peace and Reconciliation Prize that was handed over to by H.E Albrecht Conze, the German Ambassador in Uganda, H.E Jules-Armand ANIAMBOSSOU who is the Ambassador of France to Uganda and Henry Oryem Okello the State Minister for Foreign Affairs at the 57th Anniversary celebrations of Elysee Treaty. On Women's Day in the year, 2022, she was named by the U. S Embassy in Uganda as one of Uganda's Outstanding women of Courage and she was awarded with EU Human Right Defenders Award 2022.

Omowumi Ogunrotimi is a Nigerian multidisciplinary legal practitioner, founder and executive director of Gender Mobile Initiative. She has worked in over 50 rural communities advocating for safe spaces for vulnerable populations, particularly girls and women.
