Rivera-Bironico railway station

Rivera-Bironico railway station (Italian : Stazione di Rivera-Bironico) is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino and municipality of Monteceneri. The station takes its name from the nearby villages of Rivera and Bironico, and is on the original line of the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway between Bellinzona and Lugano. This line has been by-passed by the Ceneri Base Tunnel since 2020, and most trains between Lugano and Bellinzona now use the base tunnel rather than passing through Rivera-Bironico station. Just to the north of the station, the line enters the original high-level Monte Ceneri Tunnel. [1] [2] [3]

Gotthard railway Key central Swiss transport link

The Gotthard railway is the Swiss trans-alpine railway line from northern Switzerland to the canton of Ticino. The line forms a major part of an important international railway link between northern and southern Europe, especially on the Rotterdam-Basel-Genoa corridor. The Gotthard Railway Company was the former private railway company which financed the construction of, and originally operated, that line.

Monte Ceneri

Biasca railway station Railway station in Switzerland

Biasca railway station is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino and municipality of Biasca. The station is on the original line of the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, at the foot of the southern ramp up to the Gotthard Tunnel.The line through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, now used by most trains on the Gotthard route, diverges from the existing line to the south of Biasca station, passing on the surface to the west of the town before entering the tunnel proper at Bodio. Biasca station can therefore only be served by trains on the slower, but much more scenic, original route.

The station is on the original line of the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, on the southern ramp up to the Gotthard Tunnel. Most trains on the Gotthard route now use of the Gotthard Base Tunnel and do not pass through or stop at the station. The southern portal of the base tunnel is southeast of the station.

Lavorgo railway station is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino and municipality of Faido. It takes its name from the nearby community of Lavorgo. The station is on the original line of the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, on the southern ramp up to the Gotthard Tunnel. Most trains on the Gotthard route now use the Gotthard Base Tunnel and do not pass through Lavorgo station.

The Giubiasco–Locarno railway is a railway in Switzerland. It was built by the Gotthard Railway Company on 20 December 1874 as part of the line through the Ticino valley. With the nationalisation of the Gotthard Railway on 1 May 1909, the line became part of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).

The S90 is a railway service that runs every half-hour between Giubiasco and Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Every other train is extended from Lugano to Mendrisio. The S90 uses the traditional Gotthard line, making local stops bypassed by the Ceneri Base Tunnel. Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia (TILO), a joint venture of Swiss Federal Railways and Trenord, operates the service.

RE80

The RE80 is a RegioExpress service that runs half-hourly between Locarno and Chiasso in the Swiss canton of Ticino, with every other train continuing in Milano Centrale in Milan, Italy. Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia (TILO), a joint venture of Swiss Federal Railways and Trenord, operates the service.

The S50 is a railway service that runs every hour between Biasca and Malpensa Aeroporto Terminal 1 in the Swiss canton of Ticino and the Italian state of Lombardy, respectively. Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia (TILO), a joint venture of Swiss Federal Railways and Trenord, operates the service.
