Riverside Preparatory Academy is a private, college preparatory, boarding and day school for boys in grades 6 through 12 in Gainesville, Georgia, United States.
The school was founded as Riverside Military Academy in 1907 by local professors and businessmen Haywood Jefferson Pearce [1] and Azor Warner Van Hoose, Jr [2] with the mission of preparing ethical young men for success in college and life.
Riverside officially opened its doors during the Fall 1908, but would not gain prominence until 1913 when a young Professor from Stone Mountain, Georgia, Edgar Dunlap "Sandy" Beaver (later General) became the Director of Riverside Military Academies' Academics and Military Department. [3] [4] Riverside had a Winter campus in Hollywood, Florida, which briefly was used as a Naval Air Gunners School during WWII, [5] from 1931 until 1984, when it was sold. The Gainesville campus underwent renovations from 1997 until 2004, adding a new barracks building, academics building, gymnasium, and a library and performing arts center. [6]
In 2022, the school rebranded as Riverside Preparatory Academy to emphasize its academic successful, while still holding on to a modified military mission.
Riverside Preparatory Academy won "Best Band" by virtual appearance in the Atlanta Veteran's Day Parade in 2020.
Riverside Preparatory Academy won its 10th consecutive Atlanta Veterans Day, "Presidents' Trophy" in 2019. [7]
The Riverside Preparatory Academy Track & Field team was crowned 2018 GHSA state champions. [8]

William L. Grayson Stadium is a stadium in Savannah, Georgia. It is primarily used for baseball, and is the home field of the Savannah Bananas, an exhibition baseball team. It was also used from 1927 until 1959 for the annual Thanksgiving Day game between Savannah High School and Benedictine Military School. Known as "Historic Grayson Stadium", it was built in 1926. Migos were an American hip hop group founded in Lawrenceville, Georgia, in 2008. The group was composed of rapper Quavo, his late nephew Takeoff, and their mutual friend Offset. Quavo is from Athens, Georgia, while Offset and Takeoff were born and raised in nearby Lawrenceville. As a group, they were managed by Coach K, the former manager of Gucci Mane and Jeezy, and frequently collaborated with producers DJ Durel, Murda Beatz, Zaytoven, and Buddah Bless. Recognized for their contribution to trap music in the 2010s, Billboard stated that the group "influenced pop culture and the entire English language by bringing their North Atlanta roots to the mainstream".
Quavious Keyate Marshall, known professionally as Quavo, is an American rapper from Athens, Georgia. He is best known as the frontman of the now-defunct hip hop group Migos. Formed with his nephew Takeoff and their mutual friend Offset in 2008, the group released four commercially successful studio albums before disbanding in 2023.
Ernest Jackson "Bucky" Curtis, Jr. was an American football player for the Vanderbilt Commodores of Vanderbilt University. He led the nation in several receiving categories in 1950 including a 29.3 yard average per reception, and was selected as an All-American. The team's quarterback was Bill Wade. Curtis was then drafted in the second round of the 1951 NFL draft by the defending NFL champion Cleveland Browns. Curtis made the Browns for the 1951 season, but was drafted for service in the Korean War before the season started. Curtis served his four years in the Navy, expecting to be signed by the Browns for the upcoming 1955 season. When he and the Browns had trouble reaching a contract, he signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He was elected to the Vanderbilt Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
Edgar Dunlap "Sandy" Beaver was a college football and baseball player, high school football coach, and educator. He was owner and director of Riverside Military Academy near Gainesville, Georgia. In 1932 he served as member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
