Robert Bala is an American college football coach. He is the Inside linebackers coach for the Washington Huskies.

Coaching career

Bala got his first coaching job in 2009 as the linebackers coach for Snow College. [1] In 2011, Bala was hired by Palomar College to be the team's defensive coordinator. [2] In 2014, Bala joined the Oakland Raiders as a linebackers coach and special teams intern, where after one season he returned to Palomar. [3] In 2017, Bala was hired by Ottawa University in Arizona to be the team's special teams coordinator. [4] In 2018, Bala was hired by his alma mater Southern Utah as the team's Cornerback's coach. Over the next few years, Bala was promoted in 2019 to coach the team's cornerbacks and be the co-special team's coordinator, and then in 2020 he was promoted as the team's safeties coach and defensive coordinator, and in 2021 he became the team's linebackers coach and defensive coordinator. [5] In 2022, Bala was hired by the Liberty Flames to be a defensive analyst. [6] For the 2023 season, Bala joined the Alabama Crimson Tide to coach the team's linebackers. [7] After the conclusion of the 2023 season, Bala was not retained under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. [8] After not being retained by Alabama, Bala would head to Western Michigan as the team's defensive coordinator. [9]

The 2007 Alabama Crimson Tide football team represented the University of Alabama for the 2007 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Tide was led by its new head coach Nick Saban, the former head coach of rival LSU. Despite a strong 6–2 start, they finished the season by losing four of their final five games. The team closed the regular season at 6–6 and lost for a sixth-straight time to rival Auburn. The Tide defeated Colorado in the 2007 Independence Bowl 30–24 to finish the season at a 7–6. After an investigation by the NCAA, five wins by Alabama were vacated from the 2007 season, adjusting official NCAA records to show the Crimson Tide as having a 2–6 record for the season.

He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 1993 NFL Draft. He played college football at Auburn. He played high school football at J.O. Johnson High School in Huntsville, Alabama. He was the defensive assistant/linebackers coach for the New Orleans Saints of the NFL until his termination on January 5, 2017.

At Sioux Falls, his teams won three NAIA Football National Championships, in 2006, 2008, and 2009.
