Robert Bennesh [1] [2] (born 31 July 1986) is a Swedish organist who, since September 2024, has been the organist at the Uppsala Cathedral, [3] [4] having moved from his position as organist at Lund Cathedral in Lund taken up in 2016. [5] [6] In 2016, he founded the 'Festival of Sacred Arts,' launching in 2017, [7] and has won numerous awards for his musical capabilities. [8]

Education

Bennesh gained his education firstly at the age of ten, beginning with piano and quickly progressing to organ. [9]

He later sought his bachelors studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and continued with a Masters at the Malmö Academy of Music. [8] Following this, he studied at the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University, receiving a master's in music in 2014 and an artist's diploma in 2015. [3]

Career

Bennesh has performed at numerous festivals, among them the Lund Sacred Contemporary Music Festival, [10] as well as Orchestra New England's Colonial Concert in Connecticut. [11]

He has played and premiered works by contemporary composers such as Judith Bingham, [12] Benjamen Staern, [13] Staffan Storm, Per Gunnar Petersson, [14] Stefan Klaverdal, [15] Eli Tausen á Lava, [16] Daniel Hjorth, and Hanna Blomberg. [17]
