Robert Bennesh [1] [2] (born 31 July 1986) is a Swedish organist who, since September 2024, has been the organist at the Uppsala Cathedral, [3] [4] having moved from his position as organist at Lund Cathedral in Lund taken up in 2016. [5] [6] In 2016, he founded the 'Festival of Sacred Arts,' launching in 2017, [7] and has won numerous awards for his musical capabilities. [8]

Education

Bennesh gained his education firstly at the age of ten, beginning with piano and quickly progressing to organ. [9]

He later sought his bachelors studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and continued with a Masters at the Malmö Academy of Music. [8] Following this, he studied at the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University, receiving a master's in music in 2014 and an artist's diploma in 2015. [3]

Career

Bennesh has performed at numerous festivals, among them the Lund Sacred Contemporary Music Festival, [10] as well as Orchestra New England's Colonial Concert in Connecticut. [11]

He has played and premiered works by contemporary composers such as Judith Bingham, [12] Benjamen Staern, [13] Staffan Storm, Per Gunnar Petersson, [14] Stefan Klaverdal, [15] Eli Tausen á Lava, [16] Daniel Hjorth, and Hanna Blomberg. [17]

He earned his Bachelor of Arts (1986) at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm. He studied composition with Professor Sven-David Sandström and is now recognized as one of Sweden's best-known composers of church music. He is published at all major publishing houses in Sweden.

Saint Peter's Church is a Brick Gothic church in Malmö, Sweden. Built in the 14th century as the main church of the city, it has been described as "the main Gothic monument within church architecture in Scania". The church was a spiritual centre during the Reformation, and was one of only a few churches in what was at the time medieval Denmark that suffered damage due to iconoclasm as a consequence of the Reformation. St. Peter's Church contains late medieval murals of recognized high quality, as well as a number of unusual furnishings. The altarpiece, made in 1611, is one of the largest in the Nordic countries. The church is built as a basilica with three naves and transepts. The church is actually dedicated to two saints, St. Peter and St. Paul, Ecclesia beatorum Petri et Pauli apostolorum.

Malmö Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Malmö, Sweden, and the venue for home games of SHL ice hockey team Malmö Redhawks. Apart from hosting Redhawks hockey matches, the arena is a significant venue for team handball, floorball, concerts, and other events. It has also hosted indoor athletics.
