Robert Charles Landry (born September 18, 1962) is a Canadian Champion jockey in thoroughbred horse racing.

Landry embarked on his career while in his teens, earning his first victory on June 21, 1981, at Fort Erie Racetrack. He went on to a stellar career as one of his country's top jockeys and in 1993 and 1994 was voted the Sovereign Award for Outstanding Jockey. [1] In addition to numerous Graded stakes race wins, in 1998 Robert Landry won two of the three Canadian Classics. In 2004, he rode Niigon to victory in Canada's most prestigious race, the Queen's Plate.

In 2003, Landry was voted the Avelino Gomez Memorial Award, an annual honour given to a jockey in recognition of their significant contribution to the sport of Thoroughbred racing.

On July 1, 2009, Landry earned the 2000th win of his career at Woodbine Racetrack. [2]

Outside racing

In addition to volunteer work for various children's charities, Robert Landy has been an active supporter and a member of the board of directors of the LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society. [3] The Rexdale organization is dedicated to providing aged Thoroughbred racers with a permanent adoptive home or alternative careers as pleasure horses or companion animals.

Gold Strike is a Canadian Thoroughbred Champion racehorse. Bred and raced by Dick Bonnycastle's Harlequin Ranches, she was out of the mare, Brassy Gold. Her sire was the outstanding Smart Strike, a two-time leading sire in North America who also sired Curlin, Soaring Free, and English Channel, among others.

Pink Lloyd is a retired Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse who won eight Sovereign Awards during his career, including the award for Canadian Horse of the Year in 2017. He was undefeated in eight starts that year, with his largest win coming in the Kennedy Road Stakes. In 2018, he extended his winning streak to eleven with victories in the Jacques Cartier, New Providence and Achievement Stakes before the streak was broken on July 8 in the Shepperton Stakes. Three weeks later, he returned to the winner's circle in the Vigil Stakes followed by another win in the Kenora Stakes. Despite losing his last two starts of the year, he was named the Canadian Champion Sprinter of 2018.

Luis Contreras is a Mexican jockey since 2006. After starting his career in Mexico, Contreras started competing in the United States and Canada during the late 2000s. For his graded stakes race career, Contreras has won thirty six Grade III races, twenty two Grade II races and four Grade I races. At the 2011 Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, Contreras won the Queen's Plate, Prince of Wales Stakes, and Breeders' Stakes. He became the first jockey to use two horses to win the Canadian Triple Crown. In 2014, Contreras came short of another Canadian Triple Crown after finishing tenth at the Breeders' Stakes following wins at the Queen's Plate and Prince of Wales.
