Vice-Admiral Robert Earl Douglas George CMM, CD (born 6 October 1940) is a retired officer of the Canadian Forces. He was the 22nd Commander Maritime Command from 1 August 1989 to 12 July 1991.

Career

George joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1961. [1] He became Commanding Officer of the destroyer HMCS Margaree in 1974, Senior staff Officer (Combat Systems Readiness) in 1976 and Commanding Officer of the destroyer HMCS Iroquois in 1977. [1] He went on to be Commander of the Second Canadian Destroyer Squadron in 1982, Director General of Maritime Doctrine and Operations at the National Defence Headquarters in 1984 and Commander Maritime Forces Pacific in 1987. [1] After that he became Commander Maritime Command in 1989, in which role he despatched the supply ship HMCS Protecteur to the Persian Gulf during the Gulf War, [2] before becoming Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff from 1991 and Canadian Military Representative to the NATO Military Committee in 1992 and then retiring. [1]

Rear-Admiral William Moss Landymore, OBE, CD was a Canadian naval officer. Born in Brantford, Ontario, Landymore joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1936, but spent much of early career training with the Royal Navy. During World War II, Landymore returned to the Royal Canadian Navy and served aboard destroyers in the Battle of the Atlantic, surviving two sinkings. By the end of the war Landymore had taken a series of positions in Ottawa before returning to destroyer command during the Korean War. He was promoted through the ranks eventually becoming the first Commander of Maritime Command. Landymore became embroiled in a public feud with the Minister of National Defence following the Unification of the Canadian Armed Forces and resigned as a result. He died at Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Rear Admiral Kenneth Allan Doolan, is an Australian naval officer, author, and is the former national president of the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL). He is a retired rear admiral in the Royal Australian Navy, his most senior commands being Maritime Commander Australia and operational commander of all Australian combatant forces deployed to the Gulf War.
