Robert Lougy is a judge on the New Jersey Superior Court and the former acting New Jersey Attorney General.
Lougy graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1994 and from Columbia Law School in 2002. [1]
A resident of Cranbury,New Jersey,Lougy was appointed by Governor Chris Christie on February 29,2016 to serve as the state's Attorney General following the resignation of John Jay Hoffman,who left to become General Counsel of Rutgers University. [2] Christie hailed Lougy for his deep public service experience,which spanned across both Democrat and Republican administrations. [3] Despite criticisms that Governor Christie had assembled one third of his cabinet without the required Senate confirmation,politicians and special interests from both sides of the aisle commended his appointment. [4] Beginning his position on March 15,2016,Lougy oversaw more than 7,000 employees and served as the state's top law enforcement official. [5]
Christie appointed Lougy to serve as a Superior Court Judge on May 20,2016,after only two months as acting Attorney General. [6] Lougy resigned from his position as Attorney General on March 14,2016. He was approved by the Senate on June 23,2016,and assigned to the Family Division of Mercer County. [7] On June 8,2021,Lougy was elevated by New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart Rabner to be Assignment Judge of Mercer,taking effect September 1,2021. [8]
Richard Joseph Hughes was an American lawyer,politician,and judge. A Democrat,he served as the 45th governor of New Jersey from 1962 to 1970,and as Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court from 1973 to 1979. Hughes is the only person to have served New Jersey as both governor and chief justice. Hughes was also the first Roman Catholic governor in New Jersey's history.

Garden State Equality v. Dow,82 A. 3d 336 is a New Jersey Superior Court case holding that New Jersey's marriage laws violated the rights of same-sex couples to equal protection of the law under the New Jersey State Constitution. The ruling was issued on September 27,2013. The Superior Court and the Superior Court,Appellate Division refused the State's request for a stay of the trial court's order,and the New Jersey Supreme Court refused to do so on a 7–0 vote. The ruling took effect on October 21,2013. On the same day,New Jersey Governor Chris Christie dropped the State's plans to appeal,ending the denial of marriage rights to same-sex couples in New Jersey.
