James Louis Oberstar was an American politician who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1975 to 2011. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party, he represented northeastern Minnesota's 8th congressional district, which included the cities of Duluth, Brainerd, Grand Rapids, International Falls, and Hibbing. He was chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee from 2007 to 2011, and ranking minority member prior to that. In November 2010, he was defeated by a margin of 4,407 votes by Republican Chip Cravaack. He is the longest-serving member ever of the United States House of Representatives from the state of Minnesota.

Caroline Ouellette is a retired Canadian ice hockey player. She was a member of the Canadian national women's ice hockey team and a member of Canadiennes de Montreal in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Among her many accomplishments are four Olympic gold medals, 12 IIHF Women's World Championship medals, 12 Four Nations Cup medals and four Clarkson Cup championships.

Robert Henry Brom is a U.S. bishop. He was the seventh Roman Catholic Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Duluth in Duluth, Minnesota between 1983 until 1989, and the fourth Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego in San Diego, California from 1990 to 2013.
Griggs Field at James S. Malosky Stadium located on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth in Duluth, Minnesota is the home stadium, since 1966, of the UMD Bulldogs football team and of the UMD women's soccer since 1994. The facility was originally known as Griggs Field, after Richard L. Griggs, a philanthropist whose many business interests included a long time era as President and CEO of Northern National Bank/Duluth National Bank and was active in the founding of Jefferson Lines. He was also a regent for the University of Minnesota. Its current name was adopted in 2008 to honor long time football coach Jim Malosky.

"Yank" Heisler Jr. was the retired chairman of KeyBank, the 12th largest bank in the United States by total assets, the retired chief executive officer of McDonald Financial Group, and was the dean of the Kent State University College of Business Administration and Graduate School of Management until 2011. The Kent State business school under Heisler's leadership was selected by The Princeton Review for its 2009 list of the top business education programs in the United States. In 2005, he was named to the Inside Business Hall of Fame.
