Rod Mabry is an American academic most well known for being the third president of The University of Texas at Tyler for 18 years until his retirement in 2016. [1] Previously, he was the dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Tulsa. [2] Dr. Mabry is also known for the creation of the New Millennium Vision, a 10-year strategic plan for UT Tyler to become a major university. During his time as president, student enrollment increased to nearly 10,000 students. [3] In 2017, Mabry received the East Texas Area Council of Boy Scouts Distinguished Citizen Good Turn Award. [4]

Education

Mabry earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[ when? ] He also received a College Management Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. [5]

Career

Mabry researches and writes on a variety of public policy issues—from costs of the U.S. judicial system and banking issues to state and local government tax and finance questions.  He has co-authored a textbook on economics and written more than fifty articles that have appeared in numerous academic journals – such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Research, and the Commercial Investment Journal.  He has received grants for research and other projects from such entities as the National Science Foundation, U. S. Department of Justice, Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School and various state legislatures.

Mabry has also served in leadership roles and faculty member at Clemson University and Northeast Louisiana University, and as a Field Research Associate for the Brookings Institution in Washington.

Mabry was voted President Emeritus by UT System Board of Regents in 2020. [1]

The Health Science Center at UT Tyler refers to the health science education branch of the University of Texas at Tyler academic campus on U.S. Highway 271. UT Tyler HSC was chartered in 1977 by the University of Texas System Board of Regents. UTHSCT is the only academic medical centre in Northeast Texas. Located in Tyler, TX, UT Tyler HSC was originally named "East Texas Tuberculosis Sanitarium", established in 1947 as a tuberculosis treatment facility at the location of the retired World War II U.S. Army Infantry Training Base called Camp Fannin. It eventually became a state hospital known as the East Texas Chest Hospital. Wendell Herman Nedderman was an American academic administrator who was president of the University of Texas at Arlington for nearly 20 years, first as acting president, then as president, leaving that post in July 1992. He began his 33 years of full-time service at UT Arlington in 1959 as the founding dean of the College of Engineering. This was followed by four years as vice president for academic affairs, and then 20 years as president. A campus engineering building was named Nedderman Hall in 1991 by the UT System board of regents. Campus Street and a portion of Monroe Street were combined and named Nedderman Drive by the City of Arlington in 1992. He was named president emeritus in 1992, and received the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award for Leadership in Learning from the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities. The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine is a medical school in Tyler, Texas. The UT Tyler School of Medicine will be the first medical school in East Texas, the seventh medical school in the University of Texas System, and 16th medical school in the state of Texas. Plans for the school were announced on 6 February 2020 by the UT System. The Board of Regents granted approval on 27 February 2020. The school is intended to help increase access to healthcare in the East Texas region. The school enrolled its first class of 40 students on July 1, 2023.
