Roel Boomstra (born 9 March 1993) is a Dutch draughts player and current world champion. He won the Draughts World Championship match in 2016, 2018 and 2022. In 2014 Boomstra won the Draughts European Championship. He also won the Dutch championship twice (2012, 2015). Boomstra holds the title of International Grandmaster. He was born in Utrecht. [1]

The 2012 World Mind Sports Games were held in Lille, France, from 9 to 23 August 2012. The meeting started during the 2012 Summer Olympics and ending shortly before the 2012 Summer Paralympics, both in London. The Draughts World Championship is the world championship in international draughts and is held every two years. In the even year following the tournament, the World Title match takes place. The men's championship began in 1885 in France and since 1948 it's organised by the World Draughts Federation (FMJD). The men's championship has had winners from the Netherlands, Canada, the Soviet Union, Senegal, Latvia, and Russia.

The 2015 World Draughts Championship at the international draughts was held November 8–24, 2015 at Emmen, Netherlands International Draughts Federation FMJD. Twenty players were competing in the tournament. It was played as a round-robin, with 19 rounds in total, each of which be micro-match from two games. The winning prize for the tournament was 25,000 euros.

The 2016 World Draughts Championship match at the international draughts was held from December 3–18 in the Netherlands under auspice International Draughts Federation FMJD. The match was scheduled to take place between Jan Groenendijk and Roel Boomstra, who were second and third at last Draughts Championship. World Champion Alexander Georgiev (Russia) has informed FMJD that he will not defend his title. FMJD decided that the next player in the classifications of last WC, Roel Boomstra, should play the Match for World Title against the Vice Champion, Jan Groenendijk.

Egberton Rulove "Roelly" Etienne-Winklaar is a Curaçaoan/ Dutch IFBB professional bodybuilder. Winklaar is generally considered to be one of the greatest bodybuilders of the modern era, displaying a rare combination of massive size and excellent conditioning. Felled by a bout of Covid 19 in late 2020 he attempted a rapid return to competition in 2021 but found his body not yet ready to respond. Subsequently taking some time off and downsizing to concentrate on restoring to full health, he is considering a comeback to the Olympia stage for 2023. The 2018 World Draughts Championship match in international draughts was held from December 28, 2018, to January 13, 2019, in the Netherlands. It was held under the auspices of the International Draughts Federation (FMJD) and played between the current 2017 world champion Alexander Schwartzman and 2016 world champion Roel Boomstra. Roel Boomstra won this match and became World Draughts Champion.

Frisian draughts is a variant of draughts native to Friesland in the Netherlands.The rules are similar to International draughts, but is notable for its unique feature of allowing for orthogonal captures in addition to the familiar diagonal capture of most draughts variants.

The 2022 World Draughts Championship match was held from January 5 to January 20, 2022, at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, in the Netherlands. It was held under the auspices of the International Draughts Federation (FMJD) and played between the reigning 2021 world champion Alexander Schwartzman and 2018 world champion Roel Boomstra.
