Air Marshal Sir Roger Mark Austin, KCB , AFC , FRAeS (born 9 March 1940) is a retired Royal Air Force officer who became Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (Systems).

Flying career

Educated at King Alfred's Grammar School, Austin was commissioned into the Royal Air Force in 1957. [1] He became commanding officer of No. 54 Squadron in 1969, commanding officer of No. 233 Officer Conversion Unit in 1974 and Personal Staff Officer to the Air Officer Commanding RAF Strike Command in 1977. [1] He went on to be Station Commander at RAF Chivenor in 1980, a staff officer at RAF Strike Command in 1982 and Director of Operational Requirements at the Ministry of Defence in 1984. [1] After that he became Air Officer in charge of the Central Tactics and Trials Organisation 1987, Director-General Aircraft in 1987 and Commandant of the Royal Air Force College Cranwell in 1989. [1] His final appointments were as Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff (Systems) in 1992, Controller Aircraft in 1994 and Deputy Chief of Defence Procurement (Operations) in 1995 before retiring in 1997. [1]

In retirement he worked as a defence consultant for various companies including Serco Defence. [2] He also became National President of the Royal British Legion. [3]

He was Chief of the Air Staff from 1992 to 1997, in which role he advised the British Government on the implementation of No Fly Zones in Iraq and Bosnia and implemented the Front Line First initiative.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Glenn Lester Torpy, is a retired senior Royal Air Force (RAF) commander. He was a fast jet pilot in the late 1970s and 1980s, saw active service during the Gulf War and then went on to higher command. He was the air component commander on Operation Telic and served as Chief of the Air Staff, the professional head of the RAF, from 2006 to 2009. In that role Torpy hosted the RAF's biggest air display in two decades, and argued for consolidation of all British air power in the hands of the RAF.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Ted Squire, was a senior Royal Air Force officer. He was a fast jet pilot in the 1970s, a squadron commander during the Falklands War, and a senior air commander in the 1990s. Squire served as Chief of the Air Staff from 2000 to 2003. In retirement he was the chairman of the board of trustees of the Imperial War Museum and vice-chairman of the board of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
