Romain Riboud (born 2 June 1982 in Albertville) is a French para-alpine skier. He represented France at four Winter Paralympics: in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014. In 2002 he won the silver medals in the Men's Giant Slalom LW3,5/7,9 and the Men's Super-G LW3,5/7,9 events. [1] [2]
Alpine skiing at the 2002 Winter Olympics consisted of ten events held 10–23 February in the United States near Salt Lake City, Utah. The downhill, super-G, and combined events were held at Snowbasin, the giant slaloms at Park City, and the slaloms at adjacent Deer Valley.
Paralympic alpine skiing is an adaptation of alpine skiing for athletes with a disability. The sport evolved from the efforts of disabled veterans in Germany and Austria during and after the Second World War. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee Sports Committee. The primary equipment used includes outrigger skis, sit-skis, and mono-skis. Para-alpine skiing disciplines include the downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, super combined, and snowboard.
Andorra sent a delegation to compete at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, United States from 8–24 February 2002. This was Andorra's seventh consecutive appearance at a Winter Olympic Games. The Andorran delegation consisted of three alpine skiers; Victor Gómez, Alex Antor, and Vicky Grau. Their best performance in any event was 24th place by Grau in the women's slalom.
France sent a delegation to compete at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The country fielded seven athletes in cross-country skiing and biathlon, and fourteen in alpine skiing. The team’s flagbearer was alpine skier Romain Riboud.
Robert Fröhle is an Austrian para-alpine skier. He represented Austria at the Winter Paralympics in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
Cameron Rahles-Rahbula is a former Paralympic alpine skier from Australia. He won two bronze medals at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver. He represented Australia in four Paralympics, stating with the 2002 Winter Paralympics in Salt Lake City and the 2006 Winter Paralympics in Torino. He did not compete in any events at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi due to knee and ankle injuries sustained during the warm up for the downhill event of the Games but carried the Australian flag in the Parade of Nations at the Opening Ceremony. He also won two gold medals and a silver medal at the 2004 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in Wildschönau, Austria, and a gold and a bronze medal at the 2009 World Championships in Jeongseon, Korea. He retired after the Sochi Games.
South Korea competed at the 2002 Winter Paralympics in Salt Lake City, United States. 6 competitors from South Korea participated, all in the Alpine Skiing event. Sang Min Han won the nation's only medal, clinching the silver in the Men's Giant Slalom LW12 event in Alpine Skiing. Han would go on to represent South Korea at the 2006, 2010, 2018, and 2022 Winter Paralympics.
Sarah Billmeier is an American para-alpine skier. She represented the United States in alpine skiing at the 1992, 1994, 1998 and 2002 Winter Paralympics. In total she won seven gold medals, five silver medals and one bronze medal.
Tristan Mouric is a French Paralympic athlete who competed both at the Summer and Winter Paralympics. In total, he won seven gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal.
