The Roman Catholic Diocese of Enugu (Latin : Enuguen(sis)) is a diocese located in the city of Enugu in the ecclesiastical province of Onitsha in Nigeria.

History

On November 12, 1962, the Diocese of Enugu was erected from ecclesiastical territory gained from the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Onitsha. [1] On July 8, 2005, Enugu lost territory to the new Diocese of Awgu. [2]

Godfrey Mary Paul Okoye, C.S.Sp. was a bishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Nigeria. He was the first Bishop of Port Harcourt, serving from 3 September 1961 to 7 March 1970. After leaving the diocese of Port Harcourt, he became the second Bishop of Enugu, succeeding Bishop John Cross Anyogu.

Anthony Okonkwo Gbuji was a Catholic prelate who was bishop of Enugu Diocese from 1997 to 2009. He was ordained priest on 23 November 1958 at Propaganda Fidei Chapel, Rome by Pietro Cardinal Agaginian the Prefect of the Congregation. Gbuji is a doctor of Canon Law.
