The historical Diocese of Potenza was united with the Diocese of Marsico Nuovo in 1818. The joint diocese was then a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Salerno.

In 1828, it was suppressed along with the Diocese of Arbe to the Diocese of Krk. In 1933 it was restored as a Titular Episcopal See.
