Ronald McHenry (born January 21, 1962) is an American former college women's basketball coach at Washburn University. During his 22 seasons at Washburn, he led the Ichabods to one national championship, seven conference regular season and tournament championships, and twelve NCAA tournament appearances. [1] Prior to his current post, McHenry served as an assistant coach at a local high school, assistant and interim head coach for the Topeka Sizzlers for one season, assistant coach for the Washburn men's basketball program, as well as the men's golf coach at Washburn for eight seasons. Career

Early coaching career

Born on January 21, 1962, in Olathe, Kansas, McHenry began his college basketball career as a player for the Coffeyville Red Ravens and Kansas Jayhawks before finishing his college career at Washburn University. [3] After graduating from Washburn, McHenry served as a graduate assistant for the Ichabods for one season before landing a teaching and assistant coaching job at Perry-Lecompton High School. In 1988, McHenry served as the assistant coach and interim head coach for the Topeka Sizzlers of the Continental Basketball Association. [4] After a season with the Sizzlers, McHenry returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach under Bob Chipman. [5]

Washburn University

In May 2000, McHenry was announced as the next women's basketball coach at Washburn. [6] During his time at Washburn, McHenry has posted a 426–127 (.770) overall record, 247–93 (.726) conference record, and has won eight conference regular season championships, seven conference tournament championships, [7] and one NCAA Division II Tournament championship. [8]

He retired after the 2021–22 season. [9]

Lewman Arthur Lane was an American football and basketball coach. He was the 24th head football coach at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, serving for one season, in 1945, and compiling a record of 3–1. He had previously coached at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri before coming to Washburn. He returned there to coach football again in 1947.

Larry A. Elliott was an American football and baseball coach. He was the 32nd and 36th head football coach for Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He held that position for five seasons, from 1974 until 1978 and then returned for six more seasons, from 1984 until 1989. His overall coaching record at Washburn was 58 wins, 51 losses, and 1 ties.

Dennis Caryl is a former American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Upper Iowa University from 1977 to 1979 and Washburn University from 1990 to 1993, compiling a career college football coaching record of 16–52. After resigning from Washburn eight games into the 1993 season, Caryl was the defensive coordinator at Western New Mexico University in 1994. The following year, he was hired as defensive coordinator at Sonoma State University.

George F. Tardiff was an American football coach at the collegiate and high school level. He served as the head football coach at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas from 1974 to 1976 and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas from 1983 to 1984, compiling a career college football coaching record of 22–23.

The Ichabods played their home games on Foster Field in Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl in Topeka, Kansas, as they have done since 1928. 2016 was the 126th season in school history. The Ichabods were led by fifteenth-year head coach, Craig Schurig. Washburn has been a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association since 1989.

He served as the head basketball coach at Western Carolina University–then known as Western Carolina Teachers College–from 1945 to 1947 and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas from 1951 to 1960. During his time at Western Carolina, he also served as an assistant football coach and, for one season, head coach in 1945.
