Ronnie Wood (born 13 November 1960) is a retired Scottish professional ice hockey player who played between 1980 and 1993 in the United Kingdom. He is credited, with David Gardner-Brown, for creating the Sheffield Steelers in 1991,^[1] for whom he was also the General Manager between 1991 and February 1993.^[2]

Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. Ice hockey is a contact team sport played on ice, usually in a rink, in which two teams of skaters use their sticks to shoot a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent's net to score points. The sport is known to be fast-paced and physical, with teams usually consisting of six players each: one goaltender, and five players who skate up and down the ice trying to take the puck and score a goal against the opposing team.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain, is a sovereign country located off the northwestern coast of the European mainland. Playing career

After making his senior level debut in the 1980–81 season for the Murrayfield Racers, who he helped to win the Northern League, Wood joined the Dundee Rockets for the 1981–82 season. He played for Dundee for the next six season, helping them to win the Northern League and the Scottish National League in 1981–82, the Autumn Cup in 1983, the British Hockey League in 1982–83 and 1983–84 and the playoffs in 1982, 1983 and 1984.

The Murrayfield Racers were an ice hockey team based in Edinburgh, Scotland who were founded in 1952 as the Murrayfield Royals before changing their name to the Murrayfield Racers in 1966.

The Dundee Rockets were an ice hockey club based in Dundee, Scotland. Founded in 1963, the club were founder members of the Northern League in 1967 and the British Hockey League in 1982. The club won eight titles before closing in 1987.

The Scottish National League is an ice hockey league based in Scotland comprising 10 teams.

Wood joined the Fife Flyers for the 1987–88 and 1988–89 seasons before he joined the Tayside Tigers for the end of the 1988–89 season. He then joined the Solihull Barons for the start of the 1989–90 season, which he finished with the Ayr Bruins before returning to Solihull for the 1990–91 season.

Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club is the oldest professional ice hockey club in the UK, established in 1938. The Flyers play their home games at Fife Ice Arena in Kirkcaldy which has a capacity of just over 3000. The arena is home to not only Fife Flyers, who play in the Elite Ice Hockey League but also to Kirkcaldy Junior Ice Hockey Club. Traditionally many of the Flyers' players have come up through the junior ranks to play at a professional level.

Solihull Barons are an English ice hockey team from the town of Solihull who play at Solihull Ice Rink on Hobs Moat Road. The current team, which is the third incarnation of the Barons, was formed in 2005; they are named after the original team of the same name who were formed in 1965, and played at the same ice rink between 1972 until 2000; when they moved to Coventry and became Coventry Blaze.

The Ayr Bruins were an ice hockey club based in Ayr, Scotland between 1939 and 1992. Established in 1939 under the name Ayr Raiders, the club played their home games at the Ayr Ice Rink between 1939 and 1972 and at Ayr Ice Rink between 1974 and 1991.

After Solihull folded in 1991, he helped form the Sheffield Steelers with David Gardner-Brown and played for them for the next two seasons, helping them gain promotion from English League Division 1 to the British League Division 1 and then the Premier Division. In 1998 Wood moved to South Africa where he coaches at club, Provincial and National Team level. He has coached South African Senior National men's team To Silver in I.I.H.F.World s Div 3 and is currently coaching in Cape Town.

The Sheffield Steelers are a professional ice hockey team located in Sheffield, England. They were formed in 1991 and play their home games at the FlyDSA Arena. They are currently a member of the Elite Ice Hockey League. The club's main (title) sponsor is Sheffield Window Centre.

The British Hockey League was the top-flight ice hockey league in the United Kingdom from 1980 until 1996, when it was replaced by the Ice Hockey Superleague and the British National League. The league replaced three regional leagues: the Inter-City League in southern England, the English League North in northern England and the Northern League in Scotland.

In ice hockey, a goal is scored when the puck entirely crosses the goal line between the two goal posts and below the goal crossbar. A goal awards one point to the team attacking the goal scored upon, regardless of which team the player who actually deflected the puck into the goal belongs to. Typically, a player on the team attempting to score shoots the puck with their stick towards the goal net opening, and a player on the opposing team called a goaltender tries to block the shot to prevent a goal from being scored against their team.

In ice hockey, point has three contemporary meanings.

The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) is an ice hockey league in the United Kingdom. Formed in 2003 following the demise of the Ice Hockey Superleague, it is the highest level of ice hockey competition in the United Kingdom.

The 1985–86 BHL season was the fourth season of the British Hockey League, the top level of ice hockey in Great Britain. 10 teams participated in the league, and the Durham Wasps won the league title by finishing first in the regular season. The Murrayfield Racers were playoff champions.

The 1986–87 BHL season was the fifth season of the British Hockey League, the top level of ice hockey in Great Britain. 10 teams participated in the league, and the Murrayfield Racers won the league title by finishing first in the regular season. The Durham Wasps were playoff champions.

The 2018–19 EIHL season was the 16th season of the Elite Ice Hockey League. The regular season commenced on 8 September 2018 and ended on 31 March 2019, with the playoffs following in April 2019. The two-time reigning league champions were the Cardiff Devils, who won both the regular season and playoff titles in 2017–18.
