Rootfire Cooperative is a not-for-profit record label that was created in 2016, which specializes in zero interest micro loans for bands. It is a partnership between Rootfire and Ineffable Music Group. Artists maintain 100% ownership of their music. The microloan program is also supported by merchandise and music shows.

Background

“Launched in the spring of 2016, Rootfire Cooperative is a partnership between Rootfire and Ineffable Music Group that offers interest-free microloans to artists.” – as featured in Forbes, Aug 22, 2017. [1] The intention behind developing the label services program was to provide interest-free loans for the production and marketing of recorded music.

The Movement’s album Golden was the first release on Rootfire Cooperative, followed by albums from HIRIE, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, The Holdup, Satsang, and Nattali Rize. [2]

In April 2016, the label released their first album by The Movement titled Golden which hit #1 in the Billboard and iTunes Reggae charts [3]

In August 2016, they released Hirie's sophomore album Wandering Soul. The album topped the Reggae Billboard chart and was the first time a female reggae artist topped the chart since Joss Stone's album "Water" from August 2015. [4]

In September 2016, the label released their third Billboard topping album titled Make It Better by Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. The album debut at #1 on Billboard's Reggae chart. [5]

In 2017, Rootfire Cooperative released Rebel Frequency by Nattali Rize, [6] followed by "Pyramid(s)" from Satsang, topping the Billboard Reggae chart for a fourth time in the label's first year of operation. [7]

Subatomic Sound System, founded in 1999 by Emch and Noah Shachtman, is an American record label and collective hosting musicians, producers, DJs and visual artists from a variety of backgrounds and traditions. In late 2008, Subatomic Sound System garnered international attention for a limited edition vinyl 12" featuring their collaboration with Vienna's Dubblestandart and dub inventor Lee "Scratch" Perry, releasing the first songs from Perry in the dubstep genre, one of the first recorded examples of a tangible connection between the popular UK based electronic genre that emerged in the begin of the first decade of the 21st century and the Jamaican dub from the 1970s where dubstep's origins were rooted and which had been primarily originated by Perry himself. The Movement is an American reggae band originally formed in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2003. The two founding members, Josh Swain and Jordan Miller, then relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they acquired a live rhythm section in the form of local Philadelphia musicians Jay Schmidt and Gary Jackson. The band has released six studio albums. Their music is commonly described as a fusion of rock, reggae, hip hop and acoustic music.

Nattali Rize is an Australian-born, Jamaican-based musician, record producer and social activist. In 2003, as Natalie Pa'apa'a, on lead vocals and lead guitar, she was joined by her domestic partner, Carlo Santone, on bass guitar and percussion, to form Blue King Brown, an urban roots ensemble, in Byron Bay. She relocated to Jamaica in mid-2014, adopted her new performance name and in March 2015 collaborated with local group, Notis, to issue a single, "Rebel Love". It was followed by a nine-track extended play, New Era Frequency. Rize's first solo album, Rebel Frequency, was released in March 2017.
