Rory Connop (born December 27, 1990) is a former Canadian football defensive lineman who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He previously attended Western University and played college football for the Western Ontario Mustangs. He also played junior football for the Edmonton Wildcats of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).

Early career

Connop attended St. Francis Xavier High School but did not play high school football there. Instead, he played community football with the West Edmonton Raiders. He went on to play three years with the Edmonton Wildcats of the CJFL and was named an all-star of the Prairie Football Conference twice. [1] [2] In 2011, he enrolled at Boise State University and maintained redshirt status on the Broncos. Following his one year at Boise State, Connop discovered the NCAA would only allow him two years of eligibility, causing him to leave the Broncos for the Western Mustangs. [3] In 16 regular season games with the Mustangs, Connop recorded 32 tackles and six quarterback sacks. [4] He also played in seven playoff games with 16 total tackles and two sacks. [5] Connop was invited to play in the 2014 East West Bowl. [4]

Professional career

Connop was selected in the third round of the 2015 CFL Draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the 26th overall pick. [6] He made his CFL debut and started in the season debut against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on June 27. [7] Connop recorded his first tackle in the Week 2 game against the BC Lions. [8] He retired in May 2016. [9]

Personal life

Rory Connop is the son of former Edmonton Eskimos offensive lineman and Canadian Football Hall of Fame member Rod Connop. [10] Connop grew up playing hockey and played three seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. [11]

As a professional, Clermont's honours have included being named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 2002, Most Outstanding Canadian in 2004 and 2007, as well as the Most Valuable Canadian at the 2004 Grey Cup. Clermont captured a Grey Cup championship with the Lions in 2006. He joined his hometown Roughriders at the start of the 2009 season after being released by the Lions and is now a member of the Regina Sports Hall of Fame as well as the University of Regina Hall of Fame and BC Lions Wall of Fame.

Rod Connop is a former professional Canadian football player for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. Connop spent his entire 16-year career with the Eskimos as an offensive lineman. Connop played CIS football at Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. He was named CFL All-Star six times and won the CFL's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award in the 1989 CFL season. Connop played 210 consecutive games with the Eskimos from 1983 until his retirement following the 1997 season. As of 2011, he continued to be the all-time Eskimo leader in games played (274). He is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, where he was inducted in 2005. His son Rory Connop played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL as a defensive lineman.

Larry Wruck is a Canadian professional former linebacker who played twelve seasons for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League winning two Grey Cups.

The Ottawa Sooners are a Canadian football team based in Ottawa. The team plays in the Ontario Football Conference of the Canadian Junior Football League. The team has achieved success during its play in the CJFL, winning a total of four National Championships. After 35 years of competition (1960–1995) in the CJFL, the Sooners moved to the Quebec Junior Football League for the beginning of the 1996 season.
