Rosanna Scotto (born April 29, 1958) is an American news anchor. She is the co-host of Good Day New York , on Fox 5 NY WNYW in New York City. She formerly hosted with Greg Kelly. [1] [2] Previously, she anchored the 5 and 10 pm news with Ernie Anastos, and the Fox 5 Live 11 am news. She has been the lead female news anchor since 1990. [3]

Early life and education

Scotto was born in New York City on April 29, 1958, to Anthony Scotto (1934-2021), a mobster, and Marion Anastasio, daughter of Anthony Anastasio, also a mobster. Scotto graduated from Visitation Academy, a Catholic elementary school in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. [4] She graduated from Brooklyn's Packer Collegiate Institute in 1976. She attended The Catholic University of America (CUA) [5] in Washington, D.C., graduating with a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1980. [6]

Career

Rosanna Scotto began her career in television at WTBS, Ted Turner's UHF television station in Atlanta, where she was a reporter for two local programs and an associate producer of the station's evening newscast. She returned to her native New York City in 1982 as a reporter for WABC-TV's Good Morning New York, which eventually became Live with Regis and Kathie Lee . After a year with Good Morning New York and The Morning Show , Scotto joined WABC-TV's Eyewitness News as a reporter, where she remained until she joined Fox's WNYW. Scotto started at WNYW-TV in 1986 as a weekend anchor and reporter and later in 1994, she started anchoring the weekday edition of Fox 5 News. She was a former anchor of the 5 and 10 pm newscasts with Ernie Anastos. In 2008, Rosanna was named and promoted to anchor of Good Day New York, soon moved alongside Greg Kelly. On April 29, 2010 Scotto gained some notoriety by suggesting "soy jism" as an alternative name for milk not produced by dairy cattle. [7] [8] Longtime WABC-TV morning anchor Lori Stokes replaced Kelly as Scotto's co-anchor shortly after Kelly left in September 2017. On July 28, 2022, Scotto was featured for the first time as a co-host on The Five, substituting for Judge Jeanine.

Acting roles

In 1997, Scotto made a cameo appearance as herself on an episode of the Fox police drama New York Undercover . She has been on Fox for over 25 years. [9]

Scotto appeared in the 1998 movie The Object of My Affection as a news anchor. [9] She also had brief roles in the films, Lisa Picard Is Famous in 2000, Ransom in 1996, The Scout from 1994, the remake of Miracle on 34th Street (also 1994) and Ghostbusters (2016). [9] [10] She appeared as herself in an episode of the hidden camera reality show Impractical Jokers in April 2023. [11]

Personal life

In 1986, Scotto married Louis Ruggiero, a lawyer. [12] They have two children, a son, Louis "L.J." Ruggiero, and a daughter, Jenna Ruggiero. [13] [14] She is part owner of the family's New York City restaurant, Fresco by Scotto, where she often helps in the kitchen and greets diners. [15]

Scotto is a cousin of NY1 news correspondent Michael Scotto.[ citation needed ] She is Catholic. [16]

Ernie Anastos is a New York Emmy award winning television news anchor and talk show host on WABC with Positively Ernie focusing on uplifting stories and interviews. He is also a children’s author and host of his own nationally syndicated TV show, Positively America. He has anchored the evening news at three flagship network stations in New York; ABC 7, CBS 2 and FOX 5. In 2017, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio honored Anastos by designating every March 21 to be Ernie Anastos Day.

She formerly co-hosted Good Day New York on Fox 5 NY WNYW, with Rosanna Scotto. From April 2000 to August 2017, she co-anchored on WABC-TV's Eyewitness News This Morning, with Ken Rosato. Stokes joined the station as part of an effort to increase ratings on WABC's morning newscast and helped bring the broadcast to #1. Stokes retired from broadcasting on September 30, 2022.

John Roland was an American news presenter and reporter. Pittsburgh native Roland began his broadcasting career in the 1960s, working for NBC News in Los Angeles and covering high-profile events such as the Robert F. Kennedy assassination and the Charles Manson trial. He joined WNEW-TV in New York City in 1969 and remained there for the rest of his career. Good Day New York is a morning show airing on WNYW Fox 5, hosted by Rosanna Scotto and Curt Menefee. It is a Fox owned-and-operated television station in New York City, owned by the Fox Television Stations subsidiary of Fox Corporation. It was the first morning newscast to air on a Fox-owned station, having launched on August 1, 1988. The program broadcasts each weekday morning from 4:30 to 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The 4:30–7 a.m. portion is a general news/traffic/weather format. The 7-9 a.m. portion still features news, traffic and weather, but also incorporates entertainment news. The 9-10 a.m. hour addition is entertainment segments including celebrity interviews, politicians etc., as well as feature segments, food, fashion and more.

Teen Kids News is an American educational newsmagazine series aimed at adolescents between the ages of 13 and 16 years old and their parents that debuted in first-run syndication on September 27, 2003. Teen Kids News discusses important issues in a format intended to educate and inform both children and adults.
