Rose Davies (born 21 December 1999) in Newcastle, New South Wales, is an Australian athlete. [3] She holds the Australian National Record in the 5000m in a time of 14:41.65 achieved in Tokyo in 2024. [4]
Davies was 12-years-old when she first started running. At 14, she was the best in the nation, clocking times of 2:08 (800m) and 4:27 (1500m). She tried hard to improve on these times but it took five years to do so. In 2016 she remembers watching the Rio 2016 Olympics never thinking that she could ever qualify for an Olympics.
Davies then got Scott Westcott as her coach. His approach was critical as he allowed her to run as she wished, sometimes missing sessions or only running part of the program. Slowly she became committed and in 2018 she started to emerge off track and was placed third at the national U20 cross country. She then ran 10km of 34:34 at Burnie, Tasmania in October 2018. [5]
In 2018 Davies won the Lisa Ondieki U20 3000m and at the age of 19 clocked 4:19 (1500m) and 15:45 (5000m). She then came second in the national cross country and third at Zatopek with 33:25.52. (Zatopek is named after Emil Zatopek, the Czech long distance runner, it is the most prestigious track race in Australia). [6] Davies ran an outstanding 32:02 road 10km in Launceston, Tasmania in December 2020.
In 2021 she won Zatopek in clocking 31:39.97. In May, 2021 she achieved her first Olympic qualifier of 15:08.48 over 5000m in Holland. [5]
She competed in the women's 5000 metres event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. [7] Davies came 18th in her heat with a time of 15:50.07 and was eliminated from the competition. [8]
Benjamín Manuel Enzema Owono is an Equatorial Guinean athlete. In the 1500 m event at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he set a personal best time of 4:13.17. At the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Enzema set a new national record time in the 800 m with a 1:58.19. Three months later, at the 2012 African Championships in Porto-Novo, Benin, he shaved a further 1.9 seconds off the record, lowering it to 1:56.29.
Jeffrey "Jeff" Riseley is an Australian middle-distance athlete. Riseley competed in the 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics.
Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon is a Kenyan middle- and long-distance runner. Kipyegon is the current world record holder for the 1,500 metres and mile, and the former world record holder for the 5,000 metres. Kipyegon is the only three-time Olympic champion in the 1500 metres race, having won a gold medal each at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics. She also won a gold medal in the 1,500 m at the 2017, 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships and in the 5,000 m at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kipyegon became the first athlete ever to win three consecutive gold medals in the 1500m women's race, where she also set a new Olympic record. Kipyegon had earlier on in the 2024 Paris Olympics also earned a silver medal in the women's 5000m race, an event marked by controversy. Initially disqualified for obstruction, Kipyegon's second-place finish was later reinstated. Beatrice Chebet edged her out to win the gold.
Gudaf Tsegay Desta is an Ethiopian middle- and long-distance runner. She is the current women’s world record holder for 5,000 m (14:00.21), set at the 2023 final Diamond League event, the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Eugene is also where she won the World Athletics Championships on 5,000 m in 2022. At the World Athletics Championships, Gudaf also won the gold medal for 10,000 metres in 2023; a bronze for the 1,500 metres in 2019, and silver in 2022. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist in the women's 5,000 metres. She is a two-time World Indoor Championship 1,500 m medallist, claiming bronze in 2016 and gold in 2022. She is also the world indoor record holder for the 1,500 m, setting previously in this event world under-18 (current) and U20 (former) records.

Jaryd Clifford is an Australian Paralympic, vision impaired, middle-distance athlete. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics in athletics. He won gold medals in the Men's 1500m and 5000m T13 events at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships. Clifford represented Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, where he won silver medals in the Men's 5000m T13 and Men's Marathon T12, and a bronze medal in the Men's 1500 m T13. He has been selected for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
