Rose Reisman

Rose Reisman is a Canadian teacher, author, chef, and nutritionist who promotes healthy eating and lifestyle. She is the author of more than 20 cookbooks and the health expert on local and national television and radio shows.

Early life and education

Rose Reisman was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [1] [2]

After completing her high school education, Reisman went on to York University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1975. After graduating, she then earned a Bachelor of Education at the University of Toronto. [3] [4]

In 1985, Reisman was awarded a Master of Business Administration degree at York University. [5]

Career

In 1988, Reisman wrote her first book on the Toronto Dessert Scene. [6] The book met with modest success, and she wrote a second book on the Manhattan Dessert Scene. After two more books and battling her own health issues, Reisman abandoned the traditional cookbook market to focus solely on healthy eating. Her first cookbook in that genre was called Rose Reisman Brings Home Light Cooking and was written in association with Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The next book in the series was Rose Reisman Brings Home Easy Pasta. [7]

In 2004, Reisman founded Rose Reisman Catering, a healthy eating catering company in Canada. [8]

Reisman wrote 20 cookbooks, including The Art of Living Well, The Complete Light Kitchen, and The Vegetarian Kitchen. [9] She is the author of a regular column for the Toronto Star [10] and has appeared on numerous television and radio shows to share her expertise on healthy eating and living. [11]

She has been recognized with various awards, including the Women's Executive Network's Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada Award in 2010 [12] and the YWCA's Women of Distinction Award. [13] Since 2013, she is a host of the show Food Bites on CityNews 660. [14]

Reisman also supports several charitable organizations, including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, [15] [16] and the Canadian Cancer Society [17] and the Children's Wish Foundation.

Personal life

Rose Reisman is married and has four children. [18]

Fruktsoppa is a fruit soup that is typically prepared using dried fruits, and usually served as a dessert dish. The dish has been described as a "cold fruit pudding." It is a traditional dessert in Sweden and Norway. Historically, during the winter months in Scandinavian countries, fresh fruit was generally unavailable, so people used dried fruits for the preparation of various dishes, including fruktsoppa. The soup may be served hot or cold. The soup can be made with one fruit or with multiple fruits; a soup which is made with multiple fruits may be called blandad fruktsoppa, which is Swedish for "mixed fruit soup".

<i>Ten Talents</i> (cookbook) Vegan cookbook, first published 1968

Ten Talents is a vegetarian and vegan cookbook originally published in 1968 by Rosalie Hurd and Frank J. Hurd. At the time, it was one of the few resources for vegetarian and vegan cooks. The cookbook promotes Christian vegetarianism and a Bible-based diet, in keeping with teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. By 1991, the 750-recipe cookbook was entering its 44th printing and had sold more than 250,000 copies. An expanded edition with more than 1,000 recipes was issued in 2012.

The James Beard Foundation Awards are annual awards presented by the James Beard Foundation to recognize culinary professionals in the United States. The awards recognize chefs, restaurateurs, authors and journalists each year, and are generally scheduled around James Beard's May birthday.

<i>Look Good, Feel Great Cookbook</i> Cookbook by Jenny Jones

Look Good, Feel Great Cookbook is a cookbook with over eighty recipes devoted to superfood and comfort food dishes. The book was written and photographed by Jenny Jones. Broken down into twelve sections, the book includes recipes for homemade dishes, including Jones's "favorite breakfasts", muffins and quick bread, soups, salads, dips and snacks, light meals, "super suppers", pasta and grains, vegetable sides, cookies, cakes, and desserts. Look Good, Feel Great Cookbook was published on April 10, 2006, by Wiley and it was met with favorable reviews for its healthy yet accessible recipes. All of the book's proceeds were donated to the City of Hope Cancer Center to benefit breast cancer research.
