He graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in fine art from the Ulster University and went on to receive his master's degree from the Chelsea School of Art in London.
He has been a visiting speaker at Harvard University, Magdalen College (Oxford), Jesus College (Cambridge) and Wheaton College (Chicago) and the National Portrait Gallery (London). He was recently[ when? ] invited as a guest speaker by Members of Congress at the President's "National Prayer Breakfast" in Washington DC.
Wilson's portrait commissions have included Nobel Laureates Derek Walcott and Seamus Heaney for the National Portrait Gallery, the Russian poet Joseph Brodsky, and the American playwright Arthur Miller.
Wilson's work has also been showcased and sold at both Christie's and Sotheby's in London.

John Luke was an Irish artist. He was born in Belfast at 4 Lewis Street. The fifth of seven sons and one daughter of James Luke and his wife Sarah, originally from Ahoghill. He attended the Hillman Street National School and in 1920 went to work at the York Street Flax Spinning Company. Ian Cumberland is an Irish visual artist. He was born in Banbridge, Co. Down, 1983. His work focuses on portraits with his paintings typically using oils as the primary media. He studied fine art at the University of Ulster. He has won several prizes, the most significant of which was the Davy Portrait Award in 2010. In 2019 and 2020 Cumberland deals in his work with increased commercialization, technological development and its effects on the individual. In doing so, he creates scenes that seem like a private snapshot and transport the viewer into a voyeuristic experience. He develops these by integrating his paintings into an installation consisting of audio and video works, neon light, sculptures and other plastic materials. Through this kind of deconstruction of his created sceneries he achieves a visual construction that alienates the human being within his culture, the influence of the mass media and data surveillance.
