Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III CON (born 1945) is a Yoruba Oba and the current Ewi of Ado Ekiti. [2]
Aladesanmi succeeded Adelabu I as the Ewi of Ado Ekiti in 1990. [3]
He serves as the chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University and was formerly the chancellor at the University of Jos. [4] [5]
In 2000 Aladesanmi was made a Commander of the Order of the Niger. [6]
In 2018 Aladesanmi offered aid and support for Ayo Fayose, the Governor of Ekiti, after 400 members of the Government House were detained by police in a period of political turmoil. [7] While laying the foundation of a new hall in Aladesanmi's official palace, Ibrahim Dankwambo, the Governor of Gombe State, also voiced support for Fayose and referred to him as the "symbol" of the People's Democratic Party. [8] Aladesanmi and Fayose both spoke about the importance of peace and the rights of the people of Ado Ekiti in choosing their political leaders. [9]

Ekiti State is a state in southwestern Nigeria, bordered to the North by Kwara State for 61 km, to the Northeast by Kogi State for 92 km, to the South and Southeast by Ondo State, and to the West by Osun State for 84 km. John Olukayode Fayemi ; born 9 February 1965) is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Ekiti State from 2018 to 2022. He previously served in office between 2010 and 2014 before losing re-election to Ayodele Fayose. He was also the Minister of Solid Minerals Development in President Muhammadu Buhari's cabinet from 11 November 2015 to 30 May 2018, when he resigned to contest for a second term as Governor of Ekiti State. He is the pioneer president of the Forum of Regions of Africa (FORAF) since 9 September 2022.

The Ekiti prison break was an attack on the federal prison at Afao road, Ado Ekiti in the southwestern Nigerian city of Ekiti State by 60 unknown gunmen. The attack occurred on 30 November 2014. 341 prisoners escaped from the prison leaving 1 warder and 20 sniffer dogs dead. The escaped prisoners were largely awaiting trial. 10 inmates who attempted to escape were captured during the attack at gunfire exchange between the policemen and the gunmen. 67 inmates were rearrested after the attack and 274 inmates escaped. One inmate, who claimed to have run away when he heard gunshots, returned to the prison to serve out his short sentence.

The Ekiti people are one of the largest historical subgroups of the larger Yoruba people of West Africa, located in Nigeria. They are classified as a Central Yoruba group, alongside the Ijesha, Igbomina, Yagba and Ifes. Ekiti State is populated exclusively by Ekiti people; however, it is but a segment of the historic territorial domain of Ekiti-speaking groups, which historically included towns in Ondo State such as Akure, Ilara-Mokin, Ijare, and Igbara-oke. Ogbagi, Irun, Ese, Oyin, Igasi, Afin and Eriti in the Akoko region, as well as some towns in Kwara State, are also culturally Ekiti, although belong in other states today.

She was a board member of Nigerian Communications Commission. She previously served as deputy governor of Ekiti State from November 2005 until her impeachment in October 2006.

Former Secretary to the State Government Abiodun Oyebanji held the office for the APC by a 30% margin over first runner-up and SDP nominee—former Governor Olusegun Oni.
