Elimination round

The elimination round will be split into three tiers: in descending order, the medal, plate, and bowl tiers. The top two finishers of each group in the preliminary round will move on to the medal tier for a chance to compete for medals, while the rest of the teams will be relegated to the bowl section of the elimination round. The losers of the medal tier quarterfinals will play in the plate tier, and the losers of the bowl tier quarterfinals will play classification games.

The National Schools Cup are a set of annual English schools' rugby union cup competitions, with the U18 Cup being the main competition. The finals of the Cup and Vase competitions are held at Twickenham Stadium, whilst finals for the Plate and Bowl competitions are held at another venue. Cup and Vase Semi-finals are also held at a neutral venues. Competitions are held at the U18 and U15 age group levels. At each age level there are several competitions.

2006–07 IRB Sevens World Series was the eighth of an annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for full national sides run by the International Rugby Board since 1999–2000.

The 2004–05 Sevens World Series was the sixth edition of the global circuit for men's national rugby sevens teams, organised by the International Rugby Board since 1999–2000. The defending series champions New Zealand retained their title by winning the 2004–05 series.

The 2013 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXVII Summer Universiade, was held in the city of Kazan, Russia, the most northerly city ever to host a Summer Universiade. Over 10,400 university athletes from 162 countries participated in 13 mandatory and 14 optional sports, making the 2013 Universiade the biggest ever in the history of the event. For the first time in history a Cultural Universiade was also included, with many festivals and shows held simultaneously with the sporting events. The Universiade was organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and by the authorities of the Russian Federation.

The Rugby competition at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games was a two-day tournament featuring eight national sevens teams representing countries in that region.

The 2012 London Sevens was the sixth edition of the tournament and the ninth tournament of the 2011–12 IRB Sevens World Series. The host stadium was the Twickenham Stadium.

The 2013 USA Sevens was the tenth edition of the USA Sevens tournament, and the fifth tournament of the 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series. The host stadium was the Sam Boyd Stadium in the Las Vegas-area community of Whitney, Nevada.

The 2012 South Africa Sevens was the ninth edition of the tournament and the third tournament of the 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series.

The 2013 Wellington Sevens was the 14th edition of the tournament as part of the 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series. It was hosted in Wellington, New Zealand, at the Westpac Stadium.

The 2013 Japan Sevens was the second edition of the tournament and the seventh tournament of the 2012–13 IRB Sevens World Series. The host stadium was the Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium.

Rugby sevens at the 2014 Commonwealth Games was the fifth time in the competition's history that the event took place. The tournament's preliminaries took place on 26 July, with the classification matches, quarterfinals, semifinals and medal matches the following day. The venue for the competition was Ibrox Stadium. South Africa beat the reigning champions New Zealand in the final on 27 July, beating their opponents 17-12. It was the first time that New Zealand had been beaten in any game since the inception of rugby sevens at the Commonwealth Games in 1998, ending their 30 match win streak and marking the first time any other nation had won the competition.

The 2015 Wellington Sevens is the 16th edition of the tournament as part of the 2014–15 Sevens World Series. It is hosted in Wellington, New Zealand, at the Westpac Stadium.
