The Rushworth Chronicle and Goulburn Advertiserwas an Australian newspaper that was published between 1886 and 1977.
The paper was published in Rushworth, Victoria by G.A. Beck for the Rushworth Printing Company, and was known as the "Official organ of the Shires of Waranga and Goulburn". [1]
Earlier titles of the paper include The Waranga Chronicle and Goulburn Advertiser, Murchison Advertiser and Murchison, Toolamba, Mooroopna & Dargalong Express, Goulburn Advertiser and Murchison, Toolamba, Mooroopna & Dargalong Express.
The Toolamba Telegraph and Moroopna, Shepparton, Arcadia, and Murchison Advertiser was launched by John Lewis in May 1874. The Waranga Echo was published in Rushworth from February 1868 until about August 1869. In 1869 Charles James Robinson launched the Waranga Chronicle. In 1886 The Waranga Chronicle was renamed the Rushworth Chronicle, and continued to be published under this name until 1977.
Charles Robinson launched the Goulburn Advertiser in 1873, which later became the Murchison Advertiser and ceased publication in 1962.
In 1876-77 John Lewis moved his printery from his farm into Mooroopna and changed the newspaper's title to the Mooroopna and Toolamba Telegraph, Shepparton, Rushworth and Murchison Advertiser. This was probably triggered by the emergence of the Shepparton News three months earlier.
There was a great deal of expansion in the Goulburn Valley in the 1880s, which caused newspaper publications to multiply.
John Lewis expanded his publishing business in 1880 launching the Tatura Guardian, and the Shepparton Chronicle. [2]

Mooroopna is a town located 181 kilometres (112 mi) north of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is on the banks of the Goulburn River opposite the larger town of Shepparton. The Midland Highway crosses the river between the two towns. At the 2016 census, Mooroopna had a population of 7,942.
The Waranga Dam is a major earthfill embankment dam with an uncontrolled spillway located approximately 150 kilometres (93 mi) north of Melbourne in the North Central region of the Australian state of Victoria. The impounded off-stream reservoir is Waranga Basin and forms part of the Goulburn River irrigation system, irrigating an area of 626 square kilometres (242 sq mi). The dam and reservoir are located in Shire of Campaspe near the City of Greater Shepparton and is located 8 kilometres (5 mi) north-east of Rushworth, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south-west of Tatura, and near Murchison. When full, the reservoir covers an area of 58.5 square kilometres (22.6 sq mi).
Murchison is a small riverside rural village located on the Goulburn River in Victoria, Australia. Murchison is located 167 kilometres from Melbourne and is just to the west of the Goulburn Valley Highway between Shepparton and Nagambie. The surrounding countryside contains orchards, vineyards and dairy farms and also HM Prison Dhurringile. At the 2016 census, Murchison had a population of 925.

Ardmona is a locality in the Goulburn Valley of central Victoria, Australia. It is 10 km west of Shepparton and located in the City of Greater Shepparton local government area. The Midland Highway passes through the south of Ardmona.

The Girgarre railway line is a closed 23-kilometre (14 mi) branch railway line situated in the Loddon Mallee region of Victoria, Australia. Constructed by the Victorian Railways, it branches from the Colbinabbin line at Rushworth station, and runs north from the town of Rushworth to Girgarre. The line was primarily built to serve the livestock and other farm industries as well as providing a general goods and passenger service to townships in the area.
