He served as the head football coach at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota from 1920 to 1921, at Arizona State Teacher's College of Flagstaff—now known as Northern Arizona University—from 1928 to 1932, and at Arizona State Teachers College at Tempe—now known as Arizona State University—from 1933 to 1937, compiling a career college football record of 37–42–7. Lavik was also the head basketball coach at Arizona State Flagstaff (1927–1931), Colorado Agricultural College—now known as Colorado State University (1925–1928), and Arizona State Tempe, tallying a career college basketball mark of 157–163. In addition he served as the athletic director at Arizona State from 1933 to 1949. He was a graduate of Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Andrew "Scooter" Molander is a former American football quarterback who played four seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL) with the Charlotte Rage, Las Vegas Sting and Anaheim Piranhas. He first enrolled at Phoenix College before transferring to Colorado State University. He attended Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona. Molander was also a member of the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants, New York/New Jersey Knights and Oregon Lightning Bolts.
The Texas A&M–Commerce Lions football team is the college football program representing Texas A&M University–Commerce. The school competes in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The A&M–Commerce football team plays its home games at Memorial Stadium on the university campus in Commerce, Texas. On Dec. 16, 2017, A&M-Commerce won its first NCAA Division II national championship, by defeating West Florida, 37-27, in Kansas City. The Lions recorded a perfect record in 1934, won the NAIA National Championship in 1972, and have amassed a total of 24 LSC conference championships since joining as a charter member in 1931. On September 28, 2021, the university accepted an invitation from the Southland Conference, moving the university's athletics programs up to the NCAA Division I level. This ended a 90-year affiliation with the Lone Star Conference, as A&M-Commerce was the last founding member remaining. The football team will compete at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level beginning in the 2022 season.

The 2017 Colorado Buffaloes football team represented the University of Colorado Boulder during the 2017 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Buffaloes were led by fifth-year head coach Mike MacIntyre, and played their home games at Folsom Field in Boulder. They competed as members of the South Division of the Pac-12 Conference. They finished the season 5–7, 2–7 in Pac-12 play to finish in last place in the South Division.
The 2018 California Golden Bears football team represented the University of California, Berkeley in the 2018 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Bears went 7–6 during Justin Wilcox's second year as head coach. The Bears upset #15 Washington 12–10 and defeated USC 15–14 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles to snap a 15-year losing streak to the Trojans, but at the same time, they also snapped a 18-year losing streak to USC in the Coliseum. They lost 10–7 in overtime to TCU in the 2018 Cheez-It Bowl.
