Gymnastics is a type of sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, artistry and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups. Gymnastics evolved from exercises used by the ancient Greeks that included skills for mounting and dismounting a horse, and from circus performance skills.
The 1992 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXV Olympiad, and officially branded as Barcelona '92, were an international multi-sport event held in Barcelona, Spain, from 25 July to 9 August 1992. A total of 9,356 athletes representing 169 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated. The games featured 257 events in 25 sports and 34 disciplines. Badminton, baseball, and women's judo were included as official medal events for the first time ever.

With 11 Olympic medals, she is tied with Věra Čáslavská as the third-most decorated female Olympic gymnast, and has the most Olympic medals earned by a U.S. gymnast.

The competition was split into three disciplines, artistic, rhythmic and trampoline. Women competed in all three disciplines whereas the men only took part in the artistic and trampoline competitions.
Harutyun Merdinyan is an Armenian male artistic gymnast and a member of the national team. A pommel horse specialist, he is a two-time European champion from 2016 and 2022 and a two-time world championships bronze medalist from 2015 and 2022. His 2016 European gold was the first artistic gymnastics continental title for independent Armenia.

She was also a member of the teams that won gold at the 2019 World Championships and silver at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She is also a two-time U.S. national champion on the uneven bars. In NCAA Gymnastics, she competed for the Auburn Tigers gymnastics team, winning a SEC title on uneven bars and an NCAA championship on balance beam.
The 2025 FISU Summer World University Games, officially known as the XXXII Summer World University Games and also known as Rhine-Ruhr 2025, is a multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 16 to 27 July 2025, in five cities in Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region and Berlin as an outlying venue in Germany. The region previously hosted the 1989 Summer Universiade in Duisburg, who also host sports during these games.
