Rutledal is a village in Gulen Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The village is located at the mouth of the Sognefjorden, on the south side on the mainland. Rutledal has a ferry quay that has regular connections to the island municipality of Solund to the northwest and to Hyllestad Municipality on the mainland across the fjord to the north. Rutledal is located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) to the northwest of the village of Brekke and about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) to the north of the municipal centre of Eivindvik. [2]

Rutledal is a rural village sitting at the northern end of a narrow, forested valley. The Rutledal area has a number of farms that have been cleared of trees, although not all are currently in use. For a time, Rutledal had a small store and a post office.

It is about 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) southwest of the municipal center of Eivindvik, about 17 kilometres (11 mi) west of the village of Dalsøyra, and about 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) northwest of the Mongstad industrial area in neighboring Lindås and Austrheim municipalities to the south. The Sognesjøen strait is located to the northwest of the village.

Dingevatn or Dingevatnet is the 18th deepest lake in Norway, reaching a maximum depth of 220 metres (720 ft). It is located in the municipality of Gulen in Sogn og Fjordane county. The 2.84-square-kilometre (1.10 sq mi) lake is located just east of the village of Dingja, about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) southeast of the mouth of the Sognefjorden. The lake lies about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) north of the municipal center of Eivindvik. The lake flows out into the small Dingjaelva river, which runs past the village of Dingja before emptying into the Sognesjøen strait.

Losnegard is a very small village in the municipality of Solund in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. Constituting the easternmost point of the municipality, it is located near the mouth of the Sognefjorden, about 14.5 kilometres (9.0 mi) northeast of the municipal center of Hardbakke. Sognesjøen is a strait in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The strait is the outermost part of the large Sognefjorden. It runs along the border between Solund and Gulen municipalities. The 35-kilometre (22 mi) long strait begins around the village of Rutledal on the mainland of Gulen at the mouth of the Sognefjorden. The strait then flows in a southwesterly direction into the North Sea, just north of the island municipality of Fedje. The Sognesjøen is surrounded by many large and small islands. The islands of Sula, Steinsundøyna, Ytre Sula lie along the northern side of the strait. The mainland and the islands of Hiserøyna, Hille, Kversøyna, and Byrknesøyna lie along the southern side of the strait.

Instefjord is a small village in Gulen Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It is located at the southern end of the Risnefjorden, a small arm that branches off the main Sognefjorden. The European route E39 highway runs through the village on its way from the city of Bergen to the city of Førde. The small village of Brekke lies about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the northwest, and the small village of Ytre Oppedal lies about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) to the northeast. Fish farming and agriculture are the main industries in Instefjord.

Losna is an island in the municipality of Solund in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The 15.3-square-kilometre (5.9 sq mi) island lies at the mouth of the Sognefjorden, on the north side of the Sognesjøen. The Tollesundet strait lies between the island and the mainland of Hyllestad to the east and the Krakhellasundet strait lies between the island and the nearby island of Sula to the west. The island of Sula sits only about 600 metres (2,000 ft) to the west. The highest point on the very rocky island is the 451-metre (1,480 ft) tall mountain Meinova on the northern end of the island.

Ytre Sula is an island in Solund Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The island lies along the Sognesjøen, just west of the mouth of the large Sognefjorden. The 34.7-square-kilometre (13.4 sq mi) island is part of a large island group. It is the westernmost of the three main islands in Solund. The island of Steinsundøyna lies just east of Ytre Sula. There are no road connections to the rest of Norway. To get to the mainland, one must take a ferry connection from Ytre Sula to the smaller island of Rånøyna, cross that island and cross a small bridge to Steinsundøyna, take a bridge from Steinsundøyna to Sula, and then another ferry from Sula to Rutledal in Gulen municipality on the mainland.

Mjømna is an island in Gulen Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The island sits off the mainland coast in southwestern Gulen, and it is part of a large archipelago of islands. The main islands that surround Mjømna include Byrknesøyna, Sandøyna, and Hiserøyna. The Fensfjorden flows south of the island and the Gulafjorden and Sognesjøen flow along the north of the island.

Sandøyna or Sandøya is the largest island in Gulen Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The 31.6-square-kilometre (12.2 sq mi) island lies just west of the mainland in a large archipelago of islands that sit north of the Fensfjorden, southeast of the Sognesjøen, and south of the Gulafjorden. The islands of Mjømna and Byrknesøyna lie just west of Sandøyna. These three islands are connected to the mainland by a series of bridges. The bridge from Sandøyna to the mainland was completed in 2010, thus eliminating the old ferry route from the island to the mainland. The largest settlement is the village of Ånneland on the western coast of the island.

Grønlid School is located at Rutledal in Gulen municipality in Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. It was built in 1931 and in use as a school until 1973. During the German occupation of Norway, the building was used to house occupation forces.
