Ryan P. Heritage is a United States Marine Corps major general who serves as the director of operations of the United States Cyber Command. He previously served as the commander of the Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command and Marine Corps Forces Space Command, and Marine Corps Information Command. [1] [2] [3]
Heritage earned a bachelor's degree in international relations from George Washington University in 1990. He later received a master's degree in military studies from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College at Marine Corps University and a second master's degree in national security and strategic studies from the Army War College. Heritage served as the commander of Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego from 2018 to 2021. [4]
In March 2023, Heritage was nominated for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as deputy commandant for information of the Marine Corps. [6] His nomination was confirmed on December 5, 2023, after being delayed by a hold by Senator Tommy Tuberville. [7] After relinquishing command of Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command, Marine Corps Forces Space Command, and Marine Corps Information Command in 2024, he was assigned as director of the United States Cyber Command. He would no longer serve as deputy commandant for information, an appointment he was already confirmed by the Senate. [8]
The Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command (COMMARFORCOM), headquartered at the Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads in Norfolk, Virginia, commands service retained-operating forces; executes force sourcing and synchronization to affect force generation actions in the provisioning of joint capable Marine Corps forces, and directs deployment planning and execution of service retained-operating forces in support of Combatant Commander (CCDR) and service requirements; serves as Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic and commands embarked Marine Corps forces; coordinates Marine Corps-Navy integration of operational initiatives and advises CDR U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF) on support to Marine Corps forces assigned to naval ships, bases, and installations; conducts Service directed operational tasks as required. COMMARFORCOM is also the Commander, Marine Corps Forces Northern Command (MARFORNORTH), the Marine service component command of U.S. Northern Command.
The Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic (FMFLANT) is an American maritime landing force that is spread across the Atlantic Ocean. It is headquartered at Naval Station Norfolk and directs and commands all the subordinate elements of the Navy Expeditionary Strike Force and Marine Air-Ground Task Force components that follow under the 2nd, 4th, and 6th Fleet and the Marine Forces Command (MarForCom). The Commanding General of Marine Forces Command is dual-posted as the Commanding General of the Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic. FMFLANT is under operational control of the Commander-in-Chief, United States Fleet Forces Command, when deployed.

Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command is the Marine Corps component to U.S. Cyber Command. It comprises a command element, the Marine Corps Cyber Operations Group, and the Marine Corps Cyber Warfare Group, a total of approximately 800 personnel. Vincent Raymond Stewart was a Jamaican-born American lieutenant general in the United States Marine Corps who served as Deputy Commander at United States Cyber Command. He previously served as the 20th Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). LtGen Stewart, who held that post from January 23, 2015 through October 3, 2017, was the first African American, first Jamaican American and first Marine to hold the position of Director of the DIA. LtGen Stewart was the 2023 William Oliver Baker Award Recipient presented by the Intelligence and National Security Alliance.
Eric M. Smith is a United States Marine Corps general who has served as the 39th commandant of the Marine Corps since 22 September 2023. He served as acting commandant of the Marine Corps between 10 July 2023 and 22 September 2023 while awaiting Senate confirmation. Before nomination to the position he served as the 36th assistant commandant of the Marine Corps and before that as the deputy commandant for Combat Development and Integration, being succeeded by Karsten Heckl.
Gary Lee Thomas is a retired United States Marine Corps four-star general. He was most recently the 35th Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. Gen Thomas is a naval aviator who flew the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet and participated in combat operations during the Gulf War, the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and the War in Afghanistan. He has commanded at the squadron and Wing level and also led Marine Corps aviation's weapons school. Thomas is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and National Defense University.

Bradford J. Gering is a United States Marine Corps lieutenant general who has served as the deputy commandant for aviation of the United States Marine Corps since February 2024. He most recently served as the acting commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force from August 2023 to February 2024. He previously served as commanding general of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing from July 2021 to June 2023. He also served as Deputy Director of Operations of the United States Africa Command. Previously, he was the Deputy Commander of the United States Marine Corps Forces Command. In 1989, Gering was commissioned as a second lieutenant. From 2012 to 2014, he was the commanding officer of Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) at MCAS Yuma in Arizona.
James W. Bierman Jr. is a United States Marine Corps lieutenant general who served as the commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Forces Japan from 2021 to 2024. He most recently served as Commanding General of the 3rd Marine Division from August 12, 2020 to November 8, 2021. Previously, he served as the Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruiting Command from June 7, 2018 to July 17, 2020.
