County Monaghan is a county in Ireland. It is in the province of Ulster and is part of Border strategic planning area of the Northern and Western Region. It is named after the town of Monaghan. Monaghan County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county was 64,832 according to the 2022 census.
William James Pearse was an Irish republican executed for his part in the Easter Rising. He was a younger brother of Patrick Pearse, a leader of the rising.

Carrickmacross Emmets is a Gaelic football club from Carrickmacross in County Monaghan in Ireland. The club was founded in 1887. The club participates in Monaghan competitions. The club has won the Monaghan Senior Football Championship eight times and have come runner-up seven times. The Club colours are Green and Yellow. The first club grounds played on were Athletic Grounds, then the Gaelic Grounds. In 1938 the club moved to its present grounds at Emmet Park, which was developed into one of the best venues in the county. It was officially opened in 1953 when Monaghan played Meath. In recent years the club secured property on the Donaghmoyne Road and have developed a full size playing pitch and a training area along with modern changing facilities that can cater for four teams. At present the site is chiefly used for training purposes for adult and juvenile teams as well as ladies and hurling teams but games can be played there when necessary.
Seán McCague was an Irish Gaelic games administrator, footballer, referee and manager who served as the 33rd president of the Gaelic Athletic Association (2000–2003). He became the first Monaghan man to hold that office.
Paul Finlay is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Ballybay Pearse Brothers. He played at senior level for the Monaghan county team between 2002 and 2016.

Tassan Rovers GAA was a Gaelic football team in Tassan, County Monaghan, Ireland. The Tassan team came together in early 1937 and participated in the Junior League Mid Monaghan section. The team was managed by Francis Brennan, John Mulligan, Peter Flanagan and Frank Murphy. Paddy Morgan, Lisdrumgormely was also associated with the team. The Tassan team wore red jerseys and trained and played football in a local meadow field known as the "Boggan" owned by Peter Flanagan and located up the Tassan road from Tommy Conlan's cottage and across the road from Owenie Morgan's house.
The 2018 Ulster Senior Football Championship was the 130th instalment of the annual Ulster Senior Football Championship organised by Ulster GAA. It is one of the four provincial competitions of the 2018 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. The winners receive The Anglo-Celt Cup. The draw for the championship was made on 19 October 2017.
Ballybay Pearse Brothers Gaelic Football Club is a Gaelic football club based in Ballybay, County Monaghan, Ireland.
The 2019 Monaghan Senior Football Championship will be the 113th edition of Monaghan GAA's premier gaelic football tournament for senior clubs in County Monaghan, Ireland. Ten teams compete, with the winners representing Monaghan in the AIB GAA Ulster Club Senior Football Championship. The championship uses a double-elimination format for Rounds 1 and 2 before becoming knock-out.
Drew Wylie is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Ballybay Pearse Brothers and at senior level for the Monaghan county team. He got himself an All-Star nomination in 2013.
Kieran "Jap" Finlay was a Gaelic footballer who played for Ballybay Pearse Brothers and at senior level for the Monaghan county team and the father of Paul Finlay.
The 2022–23 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship was the 52nd staging of the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county club Gaelic football tournament. The draws for the respective provincial championships took place at various stages between June and September 2022. The championship ran from 22 October 2022 to 22 January 2023.
Paddy Linden is a Gaelic footballer with Ballybay Pearse Brothers and Monaghan. He was a goalkeeper for the teams and often a corner-back for Ballybay. For nearly two decades he was an inter-county player. He is a nephew of the late Cavan player Jack Smallhorny.
