THE S!REN (Danish : S!RENEN) is the Danish mobile warning system which is a supplement to the warning sirens.
The implementation has taken place on the basis of an EU directive which obliges the EU member states to introduce a digital supplement to the existing warning channels. [1]
The system came into effect in April 2023, and the first alarm occurred on 3 May 2023 at 12:00 PM as part of Denmark's annual test of the alert system. [2]
The Siren is operated by the Danish Emergency Management Agency, but is connected to the existing warning system. That is why it is the police who send out alarms via the Siren.
It has been developed under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence, together with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and their subordinate agencies. [3]
The Siren uses Cell Broadcast technology to broadcast alerts to newer smartphones. For iPhones, it will require that it is an iPhone 8 or later and that the phone is updated to iOS 16.4. For Android devices, it depends on the Android version and manufacturer. [4]

On 31 December 2019, China announced the discovery of a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan. The first Danish case was reported on 27 February, and prime minister Mette Frederiksen announced lockdown measures on 11 March effective from 13 March. Following a period of consistent increases in hospitalisations, the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 fell from March onwards, with the number of cases in need of intensive care and ventilator units, also peaking in late March. The Danish football league system, also known as the football league pyramid, refers to the hierarchically interconnected league structure for association football in Denmark, in which all divisions are bound together by the principle of promotion and relegation. Within men's association football, the top two professional levels contain one division each. Below this, the semi-professional and amateur levels have progressively more parallel divisions, which each cover progressively smaller geographic areas. The top four tiers are classed as nationwide, while the fifth tier and below are classed provincial leagues. Teams that finish at the top of their division at the end of each season can rise higher in the pyramid, while those that finish at the bottom find themselves sinking further down. In theory it is possible for even the lowest local amateur club to rise to the top of the system and become Danish football champions one day. A referendum on the abolition of the defence opt-out, one of the country's opt-outs from the European Union, was held in Denmark on 1 June 2022. The referendum was announced on 6 March 2022 following a broad multi-party defence agreement reached during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The referendum resulted in the "Yes" side winning with approximately two-thirds of the vote.
